Default How to solve a noisey seat motor?

My drivers side seat motor makes a slight grinding noise, , but only in 1 direction.

Power movement front and back sounds normal.

The power recline/forward movement is Make a noise which is shouldn't.

Culprit: - motor? wouldn't it be both functions

- perhaps a lubrication or track issue for reclining

Before I tear into it, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this? Didn't see any previous posts?

I'd try lubing the jack screw- My makes a little grinding noise wen I am all the way back- but it's minor.

I solved this same issue by a little white lithium grease on the jack screw. There is (1) on each side under your seat. Run the seat back and forth a little bit and see if your grinding noise goes away.

Thanks

I assume the jack screw is # 5 in the diagram below?

Is it on both sides of the seat?

see next post in this thread for diagram

crw, it is not #5 in the image that you posted. Under the seat there are (2) longitudinal worm screws that move the seat forward and back. They are tucked up under the seat, get a good light and you will be able to see them. I put a little grease on my finger and dabbed some on each worm screw. The worm screws run parallel with the seat rails. With your light and activating the power seat button you can see the worm screw rotate and move the seat forward and back. This was the grinding/squeaking noise on my seat and the grease eliminated the noise. Run back and forth a few times to level out the grease on the worm screw.

OK, thanks - so they move the vertical part on the seat (the part that your back rests against) also?

Maybe i am mistaken CRW, but I think you guys are talking about differnt things. OP said that the forward and back movement of the seat is fine, It's the "seat back" the makes a noise when he reclines the back. I think you are talking about the worm gears that move the entire seat forwar and back.

That is correct - worm gear location?

The noise only occurs when the reclining portion of the seat (the seat back) is adjusted.

There is no noise when the part of the seat you move on is moved forwards and backwards.

I was referring to the # 5 screw- I also oiled the 2 long screws under the seats and mine don't make any noise anymore- at least minor- what you'd expect anyway! My lumbar support on the driver seat won't go up and down anymore- goes in and out- but it's stuck - that's my next "fix".
