SUV height is cool now. Safari conversions are popular and Porsche is happy to charge for a few extra inches of ground clearance.

Doh, my bad for missing that.

Federal regs for bumpers 49 CFR Part 51 states " The standard requires protection in the region of 16'' to 20'' above the road surface and the manufacturer can provide the protection by any means it wants"
So I took a tape measure from ground to where the US bumperettes would be located on my ROW M029 sprung car and got 40cm ( just 6mm shy of the minimum 16'')
The extra 20mm places the car comfortably at 16.5" , to pass regs.

I was actually pulled over in my 993, taken out of my car, patted down and questioned for this exact reason. I swerved to avoid road damage and a dick-head, old, white cop who was clearly trying to set an example for his young, latina, female partner - violated my rights and treated me like a felon because I swerved. Well, he also "said" speeding but never wrote me a ticket.

Over the PA: GET OUT OF THE CAR... TURN AROUND... HANDS BEHIND ThE BACK.
they have my hands behind my back, he is squeezing my thumbs together while they pat me down...

Cop: You know I pulled you over? for speeding and swerving.
Me: There's a giant pot hole. Go look. I was in the bottom of second gear, How fast do you think I was I going?
Cop: You were doing 38mph in a 35mph.
Me: Seriously?
Cop: Were you drinking?
Me: No, I swerved because it's unwise to smash a 20 year old car into giant pieces of missing road.
Cop: Where you coming from?
Me: I was at Pacific Dining Car getting a baseball steak.
Cop: Why does your car sound like this? Is it modified? Legal?
Me: It's a factory motor sound kit. Very legal and has never not passed smog.

And that's when I fully realized how much change we need with law enforcement in this country.

True story.. Rant over.

After 12 years of ownership and 137,000 miles on the old Monroe’s, I upgraded to Bilstein B6s and row ride height. Should have done it years ago. Car feels more planted, like a solid piece of German steel. I feel every bump in the road but that just enhances the driving experience. I’ve always been careful about driveways and speed bumps, so no significant difference.

now it rides the way Butzi designed it.
