Default Factory option: No rear speakers?

Hi all,

Yes, I searched a ton first. I could not find any information or pictures of a 993 rear decklid with no speakers. Was there an option for the non-Hifi cars to have no rear speakers at all? It seems that my non-Hifi 95 has a read decklid which has no speaker holes whatsoever, so I am wondering why and how common that is.

Never seen or heard of this in 20+ years here at RL. Maybe prior owner?

Haha, exactly why I am confused too. This can't be a factory freak can it? I don't see any speakerless rear decklid available so I guess a prior owner could have custom made it? Any tell tale signs to look for?

Hi Dekorum,
If one unscrews the Phillips screws holding the rear deck cover in place and looks at its underside it will be apparent if the speakers were removed after the car was delivered.

Hi Andy, I did that and nothing was apparent! It was just a solid looking brown underside. No holes or anything.

Does your rear package shelf have seat belt holes in it? If no belt holes or speakers, you may have the RS version installed. Any pictures?

Yes, there are seat belt holes. I originally thought maybe it was an RS rear shelf. Here is a picture:

Just stumbled across this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...t-options.html

User 1stgear apparently has something very similar, done by Bob at Classic9... Maybe he did mine for a previous owner, but did a damn good job. I also don't have that driver side "dip" that 1stgear's appears to have. I guess my rear speakers were removed then... since I do not see them underneath the package deck shelf/cover.

What is the base material/structure? Is it a composite or brittle material? Wood?

Mine was very brittle and did not hold up well to covering again. If it's wood, it's likely new
