Default 993 Garages

As I start my garage rebuild, I thought there was a thread on here called "show me your garage" or the like. Garage Journal has a great thread with all sorts of equipment and Porsche builds. If we don't already have one here (couldn't find anything on the 993 forum search) let's start this thing off. I'll go first with a before picture. What say you, Rennlist?

We have the world’s smallest 3-car garage- only 20x28 (don’t let the wide-angle view fool you, it’s tiny). Getting ready to clean up so I can put the 3rd car (Mazdaspeed Miata) back in. Fortunately, I trained my wife 40+years ago that our driver cars have to sit out all year, snow or not.

That is on the small side but I sold a house last year that had a 16x28 3 car garage. It was rediculously small and it had a washing machine and dryer in it.

Our current house has a 28x28 two car garage and I can only dream of a 3 car.

Many years ago, our one car garage home was hit by a tornado. We lived in a rental home while our house was being re-built, so my wife took it upon herself to find us a garage with a house on top. Although it took some engineering to rig two steel beams so that support posts could be re-positioned, she was successful. In a pinch, we can accommodate 7 cars. It requires using GO-JACKS to maneuver a couple of cars and, in some instances, I have to back out 2 cars to get one out. The big downside is the low ceiling height. Here's a quick pic of one side:

Looks like a fireplace to boot! What is the car in the background?

Fantastic. This is my dream garage. The one on the left is missing. Such a great design. I got scared when I was looking for one - the bills in the invoice folders of the cars I was looking at were astronomic. How do you like it?

The grey (called Thunder Blue) with the "bonnet" up is a 2006 MINI GP. The '95 Carrera is underneath the red car cover behind it.

I love it but it is a maintenance hog for sure. Lots of little things seem to go wrong very frequently - suspension faults, O2 sensor issues, oil temp sender, headers cracked, alternator and a few other things I have forgotten. I do more DIY maintenance on the 355 than all 7 of our other cars combined. But it's all pretty easy stuff and doesn't cost THAT much with a mix of DIY and independent repair work. I'm due for the infamous engine drop belt change in the next year and that will probably be around $7K

So the reputation is deserved but the looks, sounds, the engine and the gated shifter all make it worth it. I would never have one instead of a Porsche though, it really has to be in addition to at least one Porsche IMO. It's also surprisingly comfortable and very approachable once you get used to it.

Ours - 24' x 28' before, with the Beetle stuffed in.

And after some updates & minus the Beetle
