Winter start up during storgae - yes or no?
A few posts I have read lately on this forum and other sources (podcasts) seem to suggest:
- starting the car up monthly with the AC to keep seals fresh and coat engine internals with oil to avoid corrosion
- Y or N
- if Y, how long, 30 min, if not of the road, then just idling
- More harm than good on a car the is stored for lets say 3 to 4 months?

Drive the car around the neighborhood until it heats up at least once a month if stored......WAY better for the car versus sitting still for months.......helps avoid leaks from various systems, i.e. AC seals, steering rack, engine gaskets drying, etc and moves lubricants around.....if roads have salt/dirt/snow....rinse it off after the drive......

All of my cars hibernate on battery tenders once any salt gets spread here in MI. They sit motionless (heated garage) until the spring rains wash the salt away. The only thing I make sure to do is pull the DME and build oil pressure before the first start.
Never had an issue.

Here in the Buffalo area the stuff they put on the roads is pretty bad - brine + salt.

Good call. I started one of my motorcycles up one winter long ago and about an hour after I shut it down I went out to put the cover on and it was soaking wet with condensation. Never did that again (about an hour from Buffalo).

There is a very good thread on here that I followed and it hasn't let me down. We have salt happy road crews here as well, so once it's hibernated, there's no driving. Usually sits for 3-4 months with no issue
1. Oil change;
2. Full clean/detail:
3. Top off fuel, with a marine fuel stabilizer added;
4. Increase air pressure in tires;
5. Pads under tires to prevent/minimize flat spots
6. Battery tender connected;
7. Damp rid in cabin
8. Cover on
9. Drier sheets/moth ***** under car for mice deterrent.
First start in spring, remove DME to build oil pressure.

Once mine goes to bed for the winter I cover it and put the tender on and never start it until spring. No issues in 12+ yrs.
