Yes. US and Canadian cars had the longer geared G50/20 from the start of production on all models. ROW cars were blessed with the shorter/closer geared G50/21 through early calendar year 96 I believe then also switched to the G50/20 for the rest of 993 production.

God luck by finding another 993 Gearbox, especially a G50/21.
If you do, be prepared to pay a fortune without knowing the conditions of the box.
If you really want to do something, just re-gear your existing box

ROW narrow bodied cars, 2wd and 4wd, had the /21 gearbox until they exhausted supply in the factory, sometime around August 1996
(obviously all 4wd cars had the G64, and the 2wd had the G50)

I always wanted a regear but just didn't have the money to throw at it when the trans was out. It would definitely be better suited to my frequent trips into the mountains.

When i searched for a gearbox, the cheapest started by $15K, and that was still a G50/20. I decided to put in a 996/7 GT3 box, nearly completely regeared, and still cheaper!!
But also IMHO, that makes only sense if you convert a tipper...

jepp, over the thumb about $ 1,000 per gear you want to change, but compared with the insane prices for a full gearbox (if you find one), its still comparable 'inexpensive' ...

The reason of the mistake is dual: first from my longest trip so fa (400 miles) and downhill, 4th gear the car didn't go faster (compared to a modern Hybrid I use as well), and secondly, I went to the official Porsche garage to chat with a mechanic and he said I might have the short one.
Sorry again and thanks for the learning !!! THANKS
