RSD Help
I am trying to install an RSD I purchased into my 96 cab, but it doesn't quite fit properly. I am beginning to think that I have a coupe RSD and not a cab. The RSD doesn't sit low enough for the bracket to reach the seat belt fastening point, It's about an inch or so too high. Also, there is a gap between the arch and the tunnel. The rear of the RSD sits flush with the top of the back hump however. Here is a picture of the RSD prior to recovering it in castega carpet.
My ask: Can anyone with a cab RSD measure the width of their RSD at three locations labelled A, B and C (i know primitively, but I am not an Adobe master)? Thanks in advance for the measurements and any thoughts.

I bought one many years ago that was for a different car and didnt fit. I rebuilt the whole unit and made a top template out of carboard for fitment. I'm not sure if the images will still be on my original thread.

Thanks for the quick response. That might be the play for me as well. I will look for your thread.

@Cactus found your thread, but the pics are no longer viewable.
Does anyone know if the height of the front (where the doors are) is different on the coupe v. the cab version?

Can't say for certain on the shell but I can tell you that the doors and the piece that sits on the tunnel share the same individual part numbers between coupe/cab.

I was hoping to determine how they were different dimensionally without making a template. It appears that the coupe RSD is wider for a longer length and the cab RSD tapers from the front to the back to follow the contour of the panel that covers the cab arms. Would love to know the dimensions of that taper.

Following your “plight”…kinda surprising that Porsche Classic doesn’t still offer every single piece of these, as well as no one building an aftermarket version. Not like they couldn’t sell a few hundred for big $$. There are certainly enough quality upholstery shops, already working with OEM fabrics.
you can get HB sport seats made, why not RSD’s?

You are preaching to the choir! After measuring the RSD I have, and comparing it to cab RSD photos, I am confident that the coupe version is a little wider at the top, a little deeper (about an inch), and the sides taper differently.
All of which prevents the support bracket (same bracket used for coupe and cab) from reaching the seat belt fastening spot. It's about 3/4" shy. Plus the curved part in the middle sits a little high of the tunnel.
Going to use a turnbuckle to tighten the deck down until it starts to push in the cab arm side covers a little, and add some padding to the tunnel under the carpet so the carpet meets the RSD and provides a balm to my OCD.
Not perfect, but better than having to remove carpet, trim the deck, and then re-carpet it. Going to put a custom made mat on top that will cover any gaps anyway. Unless, anyone here has had a similar experience and went about it differently.
Pics to follow after the install is complete.
Side note: discovered that when my top is down, the passenger side finishes a little higher than the drivers side, another thing to keep me up at night

Alsamron4, I measured the RSD on our '98 Cab and these are approximately the dimensions: A: 43 1/4"; B: 39 1/2"; C: 34" I had to trim slightly the RSD I got from a fellow Rennlister that came from a Coupe. I did it with a sabresaw. I think it's a good idea to make up a cardboard template to double check before making any cuts. I recovered the piece with black sliverknit I got from Universal Upholstery, and it's a very good match.

Thank you very much for those measurements. Is the taper a straight line from points A to B?
I will likely make the template in case my compromise drives me batty. Problem is I just recarpeted the RSD. I know, should have awaited to test fitment.

Did you ever look for a part # on it? Also, some pics of your challenges would help us here.
BTW, beyond the fact that you may be dealing with a coupe version, I also wonder if you have a 964 version instead of 993, which may further factor into your fitment issues in a cab. I noticed the below discrepancy between the 964 vs 993 drawings and your first pic above.

I have not seen the parts diagram with a deck that doesn't have the ridge. Mine does not have a ridge, so it may actually be a 964 coupe deck? Do you have the part listing as well? What is the part number #11?
I will get some pics tomorrow

Just checked and that support bracket is the same part number 964-555-851-00
The PDF is too large to post but you can get it at the same place as all the other PETs. https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessor...artscatalogue/
The seats aren't in the normal PET (993 PET, 964 PET, etc). In the first drop down menu, scroll down to "Seats 944, 968, 911, 928". That PET has the seat drawings and parts for those models, from 1985-1998.
Edit: to save you tons of scrolling, 964 RSD is section 806-94 in the index. 993 RSD is section 807-80.

Very helpful. Thank you. I cannot locate a part number on my RSD. Where would it be located?
