Default Hardwired Radar Detector in Cab: Using light in Windshield

Has anyone used the light at the top of the windshield on their cab as the power source to hard wire a radar detector? If possible, it is a shorter run with minimal connection exposed.

Yes, I searched and found many posts and the p-car DIY, but those all used the sunroof switch or the radio as a power source requiring the wire be run up the pillar and across the top of the windshield.

I haven't checked but I would assume that is a constant 12 V, you want something that is only powered when running.

I ran down the a pillar and tucked the wire in. It’s been a few years, but I recall is being super easy to tuck in.

When I installed my dash camera I did the same thing running the wires across the header to the right side A pillar.
