Remove old stone guard on nb c2
Hi all, I tried to remove the old stone guards on my 1995 993, but there’s a lot of residue left. These have probably been on there for 29 years….
Anyone has a good idea how to remove the residue?
any help is much appreciated!

Goo gone or goof off work well. Even wd-40 will take it off.

Steamer works best before removing the guards, if they have already been peeled off it won't work great on the adhesive residue.
An 3M adhesive eraser wheel works great but make sure you keep moving it around or you might damage the paint.

Going to order the 3m adhesive remover and the plastic scrapers. Hope that helps.

Take it from dalves11 and me. In researching for what I knew would be a nasty job, I found out about the RAPID-TAC adhesive remover years ago by going to a local sign shop. The stuff works and will save you hours of time and aggravation.

On my OEM guards used a combination of 3M adhesive remover, goo gone, iso alcohol and a plastic spatula......took some time.......
Good news is when you put the new ones on they usually peel off in one go, after getting an edge to come up and also if less than 7 years after initial application.....I use Suntek from Clearmask.......$24 a set......

Here is how I did it:

Keep in mind, if your car has been repainted with acrylic paint use extra care as the paint can be pulled off with the guards.

I just did this a couple weekends ago. I tried the 3m remover but I found that applying goo gone thick and scraping with a plastic razor blade while the goo gone was on worked well. The goo gone acted as lubrication and lessened my fear of paint damage.

It helps if you cut some rags into strips. Then lay them on the adhesive surface and soak with 3M adhesive remover. Let them sit for a while, and re-soak every once in a while it will keep the adhesive remover and contacts with the surface.
