Why have long distance deals become so difficult!
I’ve been buying and selling my cars long distance since the late 90’s. I’m in Canada and the US has a much better selection of cars given the huge difference in population. I’ve never had issues until this year. First car I have inspected by another Rennlister. He gives it the thumbs up and I negotiate a price. Seller agrees, but won’t allow me to have a PPI done. Dead deal. Second car. I get the PPI done. We agree on price and I think it’s mine. Seller sends a copy of the title with his address blacked out for “security reasons”. WTF? Sure…I’ll wire $70K to someone without knowing their address? And, how will the trucking company pick the car up without an address?
The 2 cars in my avatar were my first and second 993s. Long distance, no drama, remained friends with the sellers for years. Ah, the good ol’ days LOL!
Hopefully, this is just a run of bad luck! Rant over and wallet $650 lighter.

This one fell through too? Oh man. I'm sure the right car is out there waiting.
I hear the frustration though. I am not a patient man. I admire yours.

Thanks Scott. Yep, transferred the funds into my US account and everything!
For others…Scott was kind enough to do my Rennfax for me on the first car mentioned. Thanks again, Scott!

993's just like houses seem to be in low supply vs demand despite economic conditions.
I am certain you have seen them, but does Rivard Collection in Quebec have a 993 you might like? My previous 993 came from them.

Thanks. Yes, I see their ads...same cars advertised for more than 12 months currently. Way over market pricing. 47,000 mile C2S tip with filler/repaint in rear for US$125K. I looked at that car in 2020 for $100K Cdn and passed due to 50 mils reading on paint meter on left rear quarter panel.

I just sold a car myself and can say that there were so many scammers reaching out to me, I got spooked. Not having a very good criminal mind I couldnt be sure what the angle to the scam actually was and was afraid of people I shouldnt have been afraid of. I ended up selling the car to a guy across the country site un seen but ended up doing the deal through autotrader to serve as a middleman to hold the money in escrow until the car changed hands. I think its just so many crooks out there spoiling it for the honest folks out there. I am about to sell my 993 next and may sell it the same way. Seems safe for both parties.

I had a curious/difficult buying, and selling experience…the buying one eventually fell thru as “current pictures” of the cars actual condition, not pictures from years earlier when the seller acquired it, were finally shared. The seller also wouldn’t consider a wire transfer, literally wanted a cashiers check mailed to his PO Box. Car, and seller were legit…had the guys name, address, place of work, etc.
The selling fiasco was also a wire transfer refusal. Buyer In Missouri, me in Central NY. His bank told him not to trust the wire transfer…ya, his bank advised him of that. Eventually he agreed to the transfer, but it was very tight with the shipper, who he scheduled pick up with before the transfer of funds.
Some of this can be down to inexperience in the concept of distance deals, growing mistrust in everything and everybody…and there being an alarming rise in the number of complete a$$holes in the world.
Been late model Audi CPO shopping for my daughter, not a unicorn build thankfully, but many of the best deal opportunities seem to be a pretty good distance away. A few dealers have mandated using their shipping company, they typically say it’s because of prior incidents with other buyers shipping company. Oh and…it’s purely as a convenience to the customer, as they make nothing off that shipping. Kinda suspect when the shipping quote is 50-70% above, what my two trusted shipping companies quoted. That shipping cost has broken two deals.

On a similiar note I am also a vintage MB Turbo Diesel enthusiast and trying to buy one of those is another exercise in patience.
Seemingly every seller of those don't really care to sell and are some of the flakiest people on earth.

Well, on a more positive note...the 993 Tip that I sold to the fellow in Germany finally arrived the other day and he is thrilled with it. It is at a Porsche dealer right now going through an inspection and they asked if they could put the car on display for a few days.
