Is there an easy way to determine? I’ve read that these weren’t made with chrome, suggesting that if these are indeed original, that they’re polished. I don’t know if that’s true.
If it’s helpful, the barrels are not shiny.

wheels
I've had both polished and chrome wheels on different 993's, and these look like chrome to me. There is an easy way to tell. Get some metal polish and polish one of the wheels. If they're chromed, you won't get any metallic discoloration on the rag you use to apply the metal polish. If it's polished aluminum, the polish on the rag will discolor to a dark gray.
Hope this helps.

I started this thread in anticipation of having a refinishing job done. Now, I’m reconsidering since, while I’m not a shiny wheel guy, I think they come together really well on the car.
Having said that, are the polished versions of these wheels (hollow, NB, 8” fronts) particularly desirable relative to painted? If that was the case and I decided to move forward with refinishing plans, I’d sell mine and buy painted in order to keep the polished in circulation.

I don't believe that they offered polished wheels - I think someone did that themselves.
Is that the one owner 20,000 something mile car that was for sale a few years ago? Very nice car if it is!

You will probably best off by having your set painted - I would assume that 90%+ of potential hollow spoke buyers would be looking for painted sets and not interested in having to spend the extra to have your painted. The good thing is that polished alloy is a great starting point for painting.

I thought I read that polished were offered, but I could easily be wrong.
The car had two owners and just over 20k miles when I bought it in spring/summer of 2021. It now has 22k. I did a full suspension change, exhaust, and a host of smaller items in winter/spring 2022; it rides on rails and sounds great now. I’ve been thinking of refinishing the wheels to white gold or bronze to tie in the interior, but I really do like the way the car looks now. One of these days, I’ll replace the radio to Porsche Classic or Blaupunkt.

Congrats...it does look like a nice one! I considered buying it, but the seller was an older fellow at the time and he was difficult to work with. Those were the pics that he sent me...the best ones that I could get from him. Pretty tough to make a purchase decision based on them alone! I was also concerned about what it took to add those rocker covers (whether the body was cut at all or not) and he didn't know.
