Default New battery ...old one lasted...

...lasted 9 years. Nine years from a Walmart conventional lead-acid battery! (and don't get me started on those crap Optimas I've lost money on in the past....)

So in the last month or so, cranking started sounding weak. And when I was off for several days (my 993 is a DDriver), it sounded very week at cranking so I charged it. So it didn't even "die" per se, I just replaced it to avoid being stuck. Needless to say, I went to Wallymart and got an AGM to replace it. Hoping for another long battery life! Gotta love it when the "cheap stuff" brings good stuff!

Had a Deka, previous owner installed it in early 2010. Cars always on a battery tender, when not being driven. Experienced a few slow cranks, so had a new Interstate installed. Shop said that Deka’s weren’t what they used to be, and I’ve put Interstates in most everything else.

Anecdotal evidence around here is that lead acid batteries have improved to the point they will last a decade or so, particularly if they're on a trickle charger. Cheap and that extra weight on the front improves balance on 911's.

I have old lead-acid batts in cars not for nostalgia, but because they are old, like the one in the SC that keeps on tickin! I can't complain about nine years from a Walmart EverStart. Better than I ever got from so-called "better" batts which, IME, has been a total waste of money in the past and will never do that again!

Fwiw the AGM in my wife's MB lasted 9 years as well, a factory MB batt. And like the 993, I prob could have gone longer but didn't want to risk getting stranded as it cranked slow once, and we were going on a mini vacation so I recently replaced that with the Walmart AGM. The EverStarts say "Johnson Controls" on the top so there is that. Hoping for the best on the 993's AGM, but for the price and warranty compared to others, what's not to like
