Where is the fuel pump located from the factory?
HI All,
I have a '95 3.6 993 engine going into my '71 914-6. I bought the engine removed from the 993. It came with the fuel pump. I located it under the engine shelf, next to where the engine will install. I have now heard this fuel pump should be mounted near the fuel tank (front of the car) instead of next to the engine. Where was the fuel pump mounted from the factory in a 993? Thanks for your help.

Under the car next to the steering rack. Accessed through small door to drivers side of tunnel.

Here's a link that has some pics. As mentioned, front of the tunnel, just off to the side. Right above it is the bottom of the fuel tank. The pump is connected to it by a short hose (less than a foot).

Yes, almost all electric fuel pumps are designed to "push", not "pull" so close to the tank, slight below, horizontal location. Sounds like an awesome build. Love to see/hear more.

Just thought I'd add another visual for you...
This is the area on the other side of that trap door that holds fuel pump. The low spot in the fuel tank sit in there. The pump is on a bracket with a few inches of hose connecting it to the bottom of the fuel tank.

Hi Cairo,
Putting it near and below the gas tank allows the pump to push fuel rather than pull fuel. Probably to avoid vapor lock and to avoid the need to prime the pump when the system goes dry. The pump is also cooled by the liquid passing through it so one wants to avoid it running dry.
