Popular subject !!

Just to add an Antipodean flavour (though you wouldn't know it )-

1949 MG TC XPAG 9842 Modified to blazes, spraying from carbs until > 4K revs! Eventually written off after several close shaves. Dreadful car really.
1954 Austin Healey 100 HIB 21495 Nice except for handling - stolen never recovered after 6 weeks ownership
1959 Austin Healey 100/6 BN4 061985 12 port, modified to > 3000 specs - gutsy car, gutsy handling! Sold to emigrate to UK
1972 Lotus Super Seven Big Valve Twin Cam - not Colin's best, the leading / training arm suspended live axle couldn't control 126 BHP.
1972 Lotus Europa Twin Cam - still remember going up the M1 watching the upper edge of the door gape apart at >120MPH. Must be the only person alive to have replaced the water pump on one of these without removing the engine - nearly killed me tho'.
1975 Series III Lotus Super Seven with T-J Fuel Injection etc - for all the Lucas fans out there, this was just as good!
After several BMW company cars, re-emigrated to OZ.
1990 BMW 318iS First 16 valve four cylinder - good package with M suspension etc. While building a Fieldbay Magnum Cobra Replica - full space frame unequal wishbone rocket. Sold both to emigrate again!
1988 BMW M635CSI Great all round car, good on track or fast roads. Leather wall to wall - handling good on modern tyres, not those metric things.
1999 BMW Z3M Roadster - the euro 321 bhp one, of course. Fast but ultimately unsatisfactory, especially seating position. Sold both to get -
1997 Zenith Carrera 2S from OPC, 12,000 miles, mint condition, 18s, sports seats, added HIDs, Strut brace, Gerts FPB, lots of TLC.

Ah, memories !! but the 993 will see me out I think - like RS993 but several months younger!

Next up: 1961 Ford Anglia, then 1965 Opel Kadett Coupe, 1968 Hillman Imp Special (yes!), 1970 VW1300, 1971 Honda RS7 Coupe, 1972 Toyota Mk 2 Coupe, 1973 Mercedes 200, 1974 Fiat 128, 1975 Datsun 120Y, 1979 Holden Commodore GTS, 1979 Honda Civic, 1980 Toyota Celica LT, 1974 BMW 3.0CS, 1981 Volvo 244GLE, 1985 Buick LeSabre,

1989 Mercedes 230E, 1989 VW Golf GL, 1991 Mercedes 230E, 1994 Mercedes C200, 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera...... been hooked since. Yes, q was only 'bout the first time but couldnt resist winding up the ol memory -- getting old;-(. Looking back, quite a variety & low brand loyalty, tho must admit hv lived all over globe. Also over 30 years, one wife, so must be some psycho compensation somewhere ---- go figure!

How about a Ford Cortina... Same 1600cc engine as in Forumula Ford... sorta. It was in the family a long time. when I was 15 I "borrowed" it after my parents had left for the evening (yup, trouble comming...). My parents forgot something and returned. They--of course--wondered where their car and their son had got to... Meanwhile I had managed to hit a small pole and wreck the car. Not badly mind you, just a small wreck. My parents meanwhile set off in search of their son. They soon found me standing next to the car.
It was a lonfg summer after that...

Hey Q, I could have guessed you were Oztralian!

That be a Ford Falcon GT (or fake GT) not the first one, running a Cleveland Ford 351, suitable for gunning down the mountain at Bathurst, unless I'm much mistaken.

But you've grown up now!

Cheers, Maurice.

My first true car was a Mazda R100, one of those rotary engines, I inherited from my older brother. At the time he didn't have a clue as to what coolants were, oil or anti-freeze. He's much better now! So, my dad and I spent the summer before sophomore year of high school and rebuilt that Wankel engine with a manual having the pictures reversed. Meaning the instructions said "looking at the right", but the picture next to the instructions showed the left side. I've never seen so many o-rings and springs in my life! Two weeks before school started, I was taking that midnight "blue coupe" down to the beach when some idiot made a left turn right in front of me and wiped out the whole front end of the car. All that work for not. However, not to be outdone, my dad settled with the insurance company, and got to keep the car and the money? It was my car and I paid the insurance. Go figure. Well here is the best part. We spent the better part of the next two months at night and on the weekends rebuilding the front end out of spare parts from the junk yard! Yee Haa! The framework was made out of angle iron, the lights were from a 62 t-bird, a 67 chevy radiator (overkill), an oil cooler from a large freezer for the oil cooler, Turn signals fron an old boat trailer and an Aaah ooga horn. Keep in mind there were no fenders or hood. Darned thing passed inspection on the third go around. Do you think I was the envy of all the high school cheerleaders??? It was so popular that it was the only car ever to make into the school hallway by the principals office. Had help from an admiring teacher. Best car and most talked about car ever!!!! Recently added a 1995 993 midnight blue cab to my garage! Amazing how that car feeling comes flooding back.

My first car -- 1983 Saab 900 Turbo. I still have it after 260,000 miles and 19 years. It uses no oil, and both the clutch and turbo are original -- a truly great car.

A Datsun 1971 510 4 door. Burnt Orange w/ black interior. $500.00 one owner. Needed a gallon of water every 50 miles or hour which ever came first. My first forray into engine repair with a overhead cam 1600cc. Ditched the 8 trk for a cassette w/ Jensen 6x9's with custom enclosures.
Made to many to remember NJ to Colorado trip to school. Once towed my Kawasaki Z1 900 all the way to Colorado. Buy the end of a 5 year ownership the wasn't a quarter without a scratch or dent. Everybody drove that car. "I'm going for a beer run, who's car is blocking the driveway?"

88 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio. Great car, fun to drive. Sold it to get married. They had bad marketing though, and Alfa left the USA at the same time the Miata was coming up. I hate the Miata. I hated being married too.
