Default A "Hang-In" Porsche at the Tribute to Le Mans

A few 996 & 993 drivers at the California Speedway today were
closely watching their mirrors for a passing 928, I'm sure, since the
fastest lap time was a 1:40 by a 996 and Mark Anderson's 928 was
in the low 1:40's. The 993's were in the high 1:40's & low 1:50's.

Kinda begs the question; Is it really the car or the driver?

Look at the tires on that beast...I'll bet it sounds great with that V8!

It's a German version of our muscle cars...

Come on now, let's be nice to our fellow Porsche type cars.

Oh, I'm being nice! I love the 928s. There was a real nice one at a PCA gathering in September here in Seattle (Bellvue) and the exhaust sounded like a Trans am car. It was great. I never did catch up with the owner to yack with him. The car was immaculate.

When I said muscle car I meant big V8 but in the case of the 928s, they have good handling to go with it. I've a best buddy in Folsom, CA with a hot rodded 928...he needs to drive it more.

The're all Porsches, right? !!!

Many happy 996/993 faces when they learned that the 928 was
only running the 1.5 hour race and not the 4 hour race!

Loren,

Who won the tribute? The only clues that were given to me were that the car hadn't run since 1999 and the driver was a long time POC'er.

Why do you say that? The Anderson 928 is faaaar from stock. Last I heard it was putting out ~540hp at the crank.

Is this the 928 that was banged up at the Festival of Speed a few weekends ago?

540 CHP I think is accurate, but Anderson is also an incredible driver. 928's are very formidable track cars once stripped down. Be looking for mine to be finished in the next few months; it should smoke my 993 on the track with 1/2 invested in it.

Well, when you saw how many of 996s/993s handled turned #9, you thought that the
race was really a DE session. So, maybe the 928 driver needs to have a POC DE
class for the next Tribute race. Luckily for many, the race wasn't at Willow.
Fontana is basically, "just set the cruise control."

My 928 racer buddy said that the Anderson car is very well driven, has a 6.51 liter stroker, and is prolly putting 500 HP down to the wheels! Yehaw. An awesome race car!

I heard the race was won by a 993 GT2. Car #69

Hey Lauren, were you in their pit? I was the Pit Marshall for the Anderson Team so if you were there we met. That car was screaming as they moved up through the ranks. Obviously a well prepared car with a couple of great drivers....

Yes it is one and the same. Luckily the damage was just a fender and a bent spindle so it was simple to fix.
