Curious as to the fastest factory-produced street legal NA air cooled Porsche ever produced? If someone has an idea of the top 10 list in order, would be even better...
I recognize that the term "fastest" is a bit subjective, but I didnt want to say horsepower, because perhaps there are some Porsches with less HP, but light enough that they were faster. Lets say in a straight line 0-60, or even better 1/4 mile times & trap speeds. I realize that suspension setups and drivers can make a difference on a track, etc. However for this question, just talking about the fastest in a straight line. Source of question: co-worker asked me this today and I wasnt sure of the answer (thought maybe 993 RS 3.8, but wasnt sure)... thanks!

I would have to say the black 1996 993 cab that I am working on for Scott (local Rennlister). Not sure why, but this thing pulls like no tomorrow.. Its stock other than a LWF. I have driven A LOT of 993's, and this one has me scratching my head

If we are talking about street-legal, non-tuner, air-cooled Porsches, it must be the 993 Carrera RS.

My money would actually be on the 911 (964) Carrera RS 3.8 litre (21 road legal versions built).
There was also one factory prepared road legal version of the 964 Carrera RSR 3.8 litre. However this will always remain subjective because there is no real comparison data. Head to head with equal drivers I would put my money on the 964 Carrera RS 3.8 litre up against a 993 RS simply because the 964 is significantly lighter. Ciao, Adrian. |

Well, there you have it. I would not have guessed a 964. My money was on the 993 RS also.
