Default Rear Spoiler Grill, OPINION NEEDED!

Hey guys! So went to Barrier Porsche this morning to have my old faded rear spoiler grill removed and a fresh mew one installed to help liven up the whole car. I was in the process of chaning out all of the old worn aesthetic pieces, including headlamp lenses, stonguards, and other small peices. The grill that is in my car is apprently stuck, and cannot be removed according to the tech. So i returned the new grill and got my money back! No money was charged to me and they still washed/vaccumed my car for free! Very kind! ANYHOW, here comes the question....do I a) leave the faded black/grey grille? or b) get it painted to match the rear of my car, again helping to UPDATE the look of my 993? Any opinions? Please advise! THANKS! I woudl love to see pics of this done on a Speed Yellow 993, or ANY color 993 for that matter! THANKS!

Your grill is not 'stuck' It is held on by some serious black adhesive that is a B*itch to remove. When I pulled my old grill off to put on a C2S split grille, I had to tear the original apart. It's no big deal since you won't be re-using it anyway. It really is a PITA! Get it off and put on a split grill!

What is the deal with the Split grill? Is it an option? I have seen it, but never understood the story. No, mine IS stuck....the tech said that it is supposed to be on there with adhesive, this one is on there with windsheild sealant he says, and he said that if he pulls it out he will break the surrounding yellow section. What do you think about just painting my faded black single-peice grille? Pics? Opinions?

Adam...are you in the Seattle area? If so you need to know where to go...not Barrier.

You could also paint it in a contrast colour?

What do you think about this?

Ok...you gave me an excuse to post a picture...so here it is...

Actually, you could use Back-to-Black or any other product and will make that black grill back to new if you don't want to go to the paint route...but..I like them color matched with the rest of the car.

I would stick with the original grill if you can. Is there no way you can clean it up? If not then a decent paint shop should be able to repaint it for you. I would have said black but seeing Cabrio993's picture and knowing that your car is yellow it would look pretty good if you colour-coded it.

Cheers,

David

I saw someone with an Arena red and matching grill- it looked great. I like the silver on black on delanobe's car too, but I don't think it would look good w/AR and the black top.

What's the deal with the split? I never noticed that before. Sources?
cheers,

Adam, AFAIK the split grill was on the "S" model only. Up grading/retro fitting is possible to (any non fixed/ non stationary) stock 993 rear wing. Check for the thread by Mike Cap for removal and painting. Lots of good info. To keep the stock look or modify? All in the eye of the beholder.

The spilt grille was found only on the C2S not C4S.

As I type, they are painting my rear grille to match my polar silver car. It's an easy and cheap mod. Plus, if you decide some day that you don't like it, the grille costs $85 or so from the dealer, so it's a cheap replacement.

Split grill was only designed for the 97-98 Carrera S models.
