Workshop manual question for 993 newbie
I searched for information on a CD version (or anything for that matter) of a 993 workshop manual and found out there are electronic versions of scanned workshop manuals out there, some PET parts CDs floating around and everyone seems to have copies of these somehow (though the quality seems to be inconsistent). I would like to get my hands on a quality workshop manual for the 993 that way I can stop asking dumb questions and actually start adding value to this great forum.
Let me be clear about something: I am not looking for something for nothing nor am I trying to encourage or perpetuate any kind of information theft. I simply want to know if there is something that I can purchase in the way of a workshop manual in electronic form instead of buying a whole set of factory manuals.
Can anyone please guide me?
Thanks in advance.

All true, you'll just need to keep you're eye's open for a set. I believe they are no longer in print, so keep checking Ebay. I saw a set a few days ago sell for 550usd with shipping, which is cheap. Copies of paper form in good quality will run you slightly less.

Alon,
Other than the PET, I know of no OEM shop manual available in electronic form other than the "scanned page versions" that float around. Actually, I think that an OEM bound version is a lot easier to use. I wish my PET was in a hard copy format - when you're working on the car and don't have access to a pc, what do you do?
I am sending you a pm re the PET and Shop Manual.

You make a good point. If I had an electronic version of the manual, I would end up printing the pages needed for any particular job so imight as well just get a bound, paper version.

I like the paper versions, especially the wiring diagrams. I have NEEDED them a couple of times. Over the past year I have purchased the entire set from the first 911 up through the 993 off ebay. Some evenings I just put my feet up on the desk and read the diagnostics volume. It's amazing how much you can learn about our cars from those manuals.

Knowledge is king. No warranty means that I'd rather spend my time diagnosing potential issues rather than paying for them, that and I want to learn more about my car.
As far as putting my feet up and just reading, my life is currently too hectic for any of that...

If "money no object", then you can get electronic versions from Porsche here:
https://techinfo.porsche.com/techinf...e=MainFrameSet
Do a "document search" and then search by model and year.
Docs cost $110 a pop, or you could go crazy and spend $5000+ for all of it...
Ebay overs a more cost effective route. *True* 993 paper sets run about $600-700 and come up every so often.
The CD "copies" are really pretty crappy, especially the wiring diagrams... you need the paper verisons to be able to read stuff!

Yeah, I wish money was no object. I'll keep checking e-bay on a regular basis along with the other many things that I'm looking for.
Thanks again.

Porsche has now decided to again make the printed shop manuals available. I just purchased a set of 993 manuals from SUNSET Porsche for about $600 with a nice 15% PCA discount.
I highly recommed SUNSET for parts. Their prices are good with the PCA discount

I think they are selling the 993 set at Rusnak porsche in Westlake, CA for 450 plus shipping. They had 3 set of them last weekend at the concours in huntington beach for sale.
