Default Big Ovals

I just posted a pair of second hand big oval exhaust tips in the classified section.
These tips will work on any C2 or C4 and will also fit the 993TT.
Asking 275 Euro for the pair which is about half of the European price.
This is a picture of the actual tips :

Understand they're sold... Question: The ad mentions these fit C2, C4, and TT. Does this mean the wide ovals will NOT fit a C2S?

There are 3 different versions of big ovals exhaust tips :

1) Narrow body 993 (C2/C4/RS)
2) Wide body 993 (C2S/C4S)
3) Turbo

The oval exhaust tips for the C2/C4 will also fit the 993TT but they are not the same though.

Gert,

Would you mind explaining what those differences are so I can be ready next time?

Tips for the C2/C4 narrowbodies and Turbo are interchangeable. The turbo tips are a little shorter than NB tips. That means if you put turbo tips on an NA, they won't stick out as far and if you put NA tips on a Turbo, they may stick out a little past the bumper. I had Turbo tips on my NA and they were perfectly flush with the bumper.

C2S/C4S widebody tips have an angled inlet istead of straight like NA and Turbo tips which is why they cannot be interchanged with NA and Turbo cars. Hope this makes sense!

Can anyone explain what might cause the left rear Big Oval on my 1998 C2S to protude beyond the rear valance about 1/2 to 3/4 inch farther then the one on the right hand side. I have investigated the bolting together of the mufflers and cat on each side and tried to loosen things up a bit to be able to either move the right hand side a little further out the back or move the left one further under the rear valance. Nothing moves enough to make any difference. Is there a natural variance at play here or is there some other explanation.

I think I read in a past thread on RL that there was or could be a natural variance. Does anyone have any cure for this situation?

I have seen may Big Ovals which extend out the back valance the exact amount... can't figure out why mine do not. Thanks In Advance for your input here.

Regards, Gary

Gary:

Maybe there is some variance in the fore/aft alignment of the muffler. I would take off the tips and measure from the end of the mufflers to some reference point (bumper?) on each side and see if there is 1/2 to 3/4 difference between the two sides.

Hi Don: Thanks for the tip. It has to be a differential of the fore and aft measurement from one side to the other.

The reference point might be at the rear valance opening. Still I cannot see how to adjust the fore/aft positioning of the mufflers or any other piping arrangement. BTW it is not quite as noticable as the Dansk tips I just replaced. The dimension there was about 2 + inches. You may have noticed at the Shriners Concours.

If it ain't one thing its another.

Have a nice 4th. gary
