Fred,
Be sure to get OEM Textar pads in an OEM box (don't know that Pelican can guarantee that down to the box (yes, there is a difference). I'd also get the OEM rotors as the Zimmermans reportedly have unpainted hats (which rust). Sunset just may be your cheapest bet ...remember to tell them you're ordering from out of state to get the add'l discount. Let me know if you need anything else!

Hey Fish...
I'd love to tag along and can provide suds and moral support... I think my brakes are okay at the moment but would really enjoy seeing how it's done for future reference.
I vote for Chris's place since he's right up the interstate from me! Actually, maybe I should do my pads? Hmmm... got me thinking now.

Brake wear sensors are typically brittle and difficult to remove. If you wish to retain this feature (I dont), you may want to add this to the buy list. Its tough to beat OE quality parts much like rotors and pads. Another item I dont use but can be reused are the anti squeel spiders.
Only downsides to my house is that I can only fit one car at a time in the garage. I have too much P-car and racecar junk lying around, amongst the other projects..

Can anyone else tag along for the "experience"? I am getting close to needing to do this as well and also don't read Greek - but am willing to learn. I have "learned" and changed the resistors for the fans up front. I'd be happy to contribute something to the suds or bring munchies. Yorba Linda is great for me, just an hour up the 15 and 91. Thnaks.

Fred,
Chris makes an excellent point about the wear sensors. I've loooong since abandoned those ...more trouble than they're worth IMO, but if you want to retain the feature pick up new sensors as they practically disintegrate into crumbs upon removal. And forget about the spiders. I haven't had brake squeal in 5 years of ownership w/o those infernal devices.

I hate spiders! What the heck do spiders have to do with this????
I too would like to know how to do this when the time comes. Any excuse to get together with a coszie is good enough for me.
And what's this about fan resisters in the front. Are you talking about the air conditioning condenser fan??? I would love to know how to replace that!
Oh, and Fred, was that $860 complete or just the labor??

Is the Brake rotor/pads session on?
I this session going to happen? I would be glad to help out...I have done the pads lots of times and the rotors once. It is time for the front rotors again. The 4th 5th and 6th...out to Streest of Willow with the POC. The following weekend looks good!

Yes, it is going to happen. As he is a guru in my mind, I'm going to take Chris up on his offer (even though Edward is closer to me). I was wondering about those anti-squeel deals. Chris, once I have all the parts on hand I will get in touch so we can pick a date.
Alan, yes, $860 P&L.

Burning Brakes
Where is the best deal on rotors? Can someone elaborate on the indicators of when one needs new rotors? I guess that means how big the little cracks from the drilled holes can get before the rotors need to be replaced.

Sounds like there is enough for Chris to do the south and Ed to do the north. I will contact Sunset. Looking online it looks like Textars are $121 for the front set and the rotors are $127 each for the front.
Is this the correct OEM part number for the rotors:
99335104301
Zimmermann
Brake Disc/Brake Rotor, Directional; Front Left; Vented 302x31mm; Cross-Drilled
$112.90
99335104401
Zimmermann
Brake Disc/Brake Rotor, Directional; Front Right; Vented 302x31mm; Cross-Drilled
$112.90
And do I need two of these:
96435109601
Porsche (OE)/OEM
Brake Pad Shim; 36mm Diameter
$6.54
By the way, it seems that all of the on-line parts suppliers use the same web site, when you get right down to the part, the sites look all the same. Are they all shipping from the same supplier?

Hey Fred,
To say the least, you are in good hands as Chris is the real deal!
But the same offer to help you certainly goes to any Rennlist Brethren here. I've done brakes a million times (swapped to/from Textars and trackpads and bled fluid for every event for over 3 years) and rotors as well, so if anyone is in need, be glad to help. Take care all!
