Default Brake Pads & Rotors DYI?

Anyone in So Cal interested in showing me how to change my front pads and rotors? I'll supply the parts, unskilled labor, food and libation. You supply the know how and the list of special tools I will need.

The $860 estimate from a local shop has me thinking it's time to learn how to do it. I'm sure there are others here that may want to join in the learning process too.

It is really quite easy and the instructions are on p-car.com.

Yes, I saw them but I can't understand Greek. I wish they had written them in English so that I could understand them.

If those are Greek, then you might be better off having someone else do your brakes

Only "special" tools needed are a 10mm hex socket and maybe an impact driver to get the screws that hold the rotor on off. The rest are common tools almost everyone has.
Also need a torque wrench to set the caliper bolts correctly.

Is the $860 for parts and labor or just labor? I will tell you that I did this trackside for the first time and it took an hour to do both sides, pads and rotors. Truly, and I mean no offense by this, this is a joke its so easy. The p-car directions are good, just take your time.

Rotors are about $100 a piece and pads from $50 to $250 depending on what you are putting in.

Good luck.

Chris,
I found that there is a new tool to prevent that. They can be found at Porsche Specialty Tool section in Walmart. Seem to be able to find aftermarket ones that work fine also. Look under coozies....
Have a great weekend!

Thats it, I am going to design and build a magnetic cup holder to stick to the inner fender wells. Nobody said anything about a 993 having cup holders outside of the car I may incorporate a three axis swivel much like those found on boats..

Fred, seriously, let me know when you'd like to do those brakes! We'll talk SCUBA as well.

Fred,

Be only too glad to help out, bro! Of course, Chris IS the guy to go to here as I am just another P-car freak and he's a pro. But if you find getting up to me more convenient a drive, gimme a holler. PM or email me and we can set up a time. BTW, I'm up in Santa Clarita (about 5 minutes from magic mtn).

Chris,
Make sure to use heim joints, especially on an exterior unit...

I've noticed that the aftermarket OEM versions available at Walmart don't insulate as well as the OE genuine Porsche coozies...

Now beer cosies I understand! Chris, Ed thanks for the offers. Need a complete parts list (sans beers, I got that part) so that I get everything. I was over on Pelican starting to look for what I need.
