Camaraderie
I was driving on the road today and while stopped at a stop sign a guy in an Arena Red 993 Coupe drove past and pointed a finger at me in a "Hi and Back at cha!"
This reminded me of when I was a kid growing up in SoCal when I went out with my dad in the 356 or the 912 or the 911T the ther Porsche drivers would wave or flash the heads to acknowlage the other Porsche.
I was thinking that maybe this tradition should be started again. I think guys who own 993s could start it as we seem to be pretty passionate and pretty social.
What do you guys think?

I wave for any Porsche between 1973 and 1998...for cars older than 1973 I have to bow instead of waving...no wave for the leasing generation though, unless they initiate the gesture...

"no wave for the leasing generation" .. pretty funny. I notice most 993 drivers wave to me in the Sacramento area. However I couldn't raise an eyebrow as I passed a female behind the 993 wheel the other day. How could you miss me in my arrest-me-Guard's-Red 96 C2?!

i always wave, except for cayennes, then i just give them the "yo, whats up dog" move with the chin.
i get really excited everytime i see porsches on the road. Living in SoCal, you tend to see them all day long. I always like it when you happen to run up with a few on the freeway by chance, then when someone has to exit, you give them the look like- hey was it good for you too? haha

I always wave to other p-cars but I have noticed a decline in the standard wave of the past. I guess to some people it's just transportation with lack of enthusiasm now.

I always wave, except at Cayennes as they NEVER wave back. Most of the rest wave back, even the water coolers! I love waving at 944's - they're so shocked at a 911 waving at them they almost plant it in a ditch!

I wave at everything p-car but usually get no response from the Cayenne's - usually the soccer mom driving thinks I'm some kind of wierdo.

Not too many p-car responses around here - especially Cayennes & lease mobiles. The highest "wave-factor" I've ever encountered was with my '04 MINI - virtually everyone waved. This drove my wife nuts as it was usually a young blonde waving when she was riding with me

I parked next to a 996 convertible yesterday at Wahoo's... the place wasn't very crowded and I knew immediately who the owner was but he didn't say anything to me. After I was done eating I asked if that was his 911... he was a nice guy, said yes, and proceeded to complement me profusely on my car. He even came outside to see it when I was leaving.
The 996 was his first p-car and he pretty obviously didn't know the details of 993 vs 996. As I said though, nice guy.

OK,
I got it now. Wave or flash all 993s or older.
That includes the water pumpers by Audi as they are a rare site.
If 996's & 997's respond if they do it first. The Station wagons ignore unless she is a hottie. Boxters, same as station wagons.
Carrera GT's a curt nod; unless it is Leno in which case a YO JAY! is appropripate.
