advice on transport please
Looking to get a car from the NE to atlanta. Dont really want to wait on it to be shipped down. Are there any companies that will rent out a flatbed, tow vehicle and trailer, etc. for a one way trip? I would fly in and trailer home.
In the alternative, what is the usual turnaround time for standard shipping through a car carrier company?? thanks!

When it comes to shipping "Time is money" the faster you want it there the more expensive it will be. Fortunately for me my Father owns a transportation company but in the past he has had a lot of retired fellows with fifth wheels haul stuff for his company. Have you tried just renting a U-Haul? My Dad's company would probably charge around $2.50 a mile but it would be there the next day or however long it took to drive it non-stop.

i vote for intercity also as well as FedEx Critical Custom ( passport). Both companies delivered my cars perfectly, on time and without a scratch. They were both very carefull on how the handled them.

If you want to do the one-way haul yourself to get it done on your schedule, check the various truck rental companies (not necessarily U-Haul). A few years ago I did a one-way haul Missouri to NH by flying out and renting a Penske box truck and car trailer. Try Penske, Budget, etc , etc If I remember correctly rental cost was about $800+ and lots of fuel.... In my case, didn't really have a choice of hiring shipper since it was a "project" vehicle completely disassembled.....

thanks big bro. that is what I was looking for. Actually I could rent a pickup with a towing package and get the trailer. Anyway- How does the car load up on the trailer? (I hope we are not talking about one where one set of wheels hang!)

Now seriously...my brother did haul a car from FL to CA... an U-haul open trailer...he just drove the car up...each trailer has a pair of ramps to load/unload the car...

The 2-wheel device would be called a "tow dolly" versus a full car trailer.
Caution - some of the companies are picky and do NOT rent just a car trailer since they can't be responsible for the specs of the truck you are towing with, and hitch, and wiring, and brake controller.... or brake wiring, etc. So they make you rent their truck to go with the trailer. (i.e you'd get into do you have a 7-pin electrical connector with electric brake controller, or a 5-pin connector and hydraulic surge brakes, etc. Some of the companies trailers depend on the truck having enough brake capacity, etc, etc.
Start calling around and you'll figure out the right questions to ask. be prepared with weight of car, length, width, etc, etc.
So.....are you starting to think about getting those quotes to have it hauled for you...?
