Joe S. nice photo but I just can't get use to the "overbite". I have to say you people have restored my faith in P car owners. I was beginning to think the common belief here was "if I could Afford It..." But it seems that there still is something in the right car (IMO the 993) that does indeed stir the soul despite it may not be the most powerful, latest and the greatest. BTW My ideal 993: the Turbo S.

On the other hand a beautiful black 993 cab in my neighborhood has seemingly been replacedby a stunning white 997 4S with a full aero package. Stunning

good attitude but I've got to admit that white 4S is a looker (should be @ $110 K)

... don't be so sure First of all, that '80 was a Euro car, 300bhp stock. Throw a K27 and a 1 bar spring on that beast (pretty inexpensive), and say goodbye to a 996 or 997 for that matter - if the driver has *****, that is.

Uh oh, I insinuated that only MEN can handle a 930! (Yep )

Pedsurg: I don't know that $110 K is really too pricey. When you compare it to what else is in its class who else is going to offer all that for $110K (style, recognition, heritage) But really, I've always thought the 911 was a deal--even way back when. Not to beat a dead horse I just wish it hadn't got so "advanced". You think that's why so many of us feel this "connection" to our 993s? Something just won't let us let go of 'em even when we can afford to "step up"

The 996 runs in C class while a 1980 930 Turbo runs in D class, 9.7 and 9.52 lb/hp power-to-weight ratio, respectively. They are both very close in terms of how much weight each horsepower has to haul around, but the 996 benefits from a much better suspension.

At least it's a big improvement and I finally have a new 911 that I'd like to have. Of course ideally I'd just like to keep the 993 and add a GT3. Nothing will beat the look and feel of 993, it will be a classic for sure.

I had thought for a while that a 997 would make sense for a daily driver and as an addition to the 993. But now that I've driven the 993 daily for a few months I think that would be the wrong move. It is the only car I've ever enjoyed every time I turn the key whether that is a 15 minute run to the office or a spirited hour ride. I appreciate how simple and connected it feels and don't want luxury, GPS, gadgets, etc. It does everything very very well and makes me feel lucky as hell every time I pull out of the driveway.

My new plan, keep the 993 C4 for daily driving and fill in the extra bay with a 993 TT for my toy. Cheaper than a 997, plenty of power, and lots of soul.

Never riden/driven a 997 but to add to some previous comments...I love the "old" gauges and simplicity of the 993 cockpit. Who was it (Einstein?) that said,'Things should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.' I think as time goes on (think current M5, something like 11 tranny settings, iDrive, electrical nannys, etc.) I will only appreciate it's simplicity more. Think what getting into a new car will be like 5-10 years from now! Like launchin' a go%*amn spaceshuttle! For the record, I can't afford a 997 and probably shouldn't have my '96 C2. I'd love more power! (TT but I'd like 2wd) I meant what I said though, even if I had the $$$, I'd probably just upgrade 993s and use the diff to get a "utility" vehicle.

You're bang on. Some people have made the argument that a 997 is a better daily driver. The way I see it, I want to have that go-cart connection to the road every time I have to travel any distance, whether it's around the corner or across the country. If I need to haul people or things or want the convenience of Nav, DVDs etc, well, that's what wagons and SUVs are for. And if I'm going to have more than one sports car, which I often do, I'm also going for a 993TT. In fact, my search is on, if anyone knows of a black on black with sport seats, full leather and carbon fiber interior with low miles or anything close to it, let me know.
