Well said, Marv.

Now, like I mentioned before, throw a K27 and 1 bar spring on a euro 930, and kiss that 996 goodbye. I think it's only fair that the 930 be allowed those very modest modifications, considering it's 26 years old
The beauty of the 930 is that it's, um, easy to tweak to gain more horsepower, a move that would make it illegal for PCA club racing in stock form. Not that anyone ever cheats in PCA racing.

AGREE! I, and many of my friends, really disliked the 993 when it was first announced....and we had started to wander from the herd when the 964 showed up! But, driving a few made a believer of me with the 993. I don't see the same happpening any time soon with the 997 (and please stop everyone from saying "well, it is better than the 996", THERE is a real selling point!). I am looking for another short wheelbase 911 though...

Can I comment? The 993 is a great great 911, its got character and history. There is no doubt, but when people start to justify the 993 over the 997 in terms of performance, then that's going a bit far. Just as the 356 fans love their cars, they cannot say that it out performs the 993. The 997 is a scalpel compared to the 993, yea yea, change this and modify that and maybe it will be in the same class as the 997, but out of the box, the 997 is a top performer. And as far as the anti techno crowd, look at what Porsche has to compete with TODAY, and you'll see why it has those techno gadgets. Look at the 997's chief competitor the F430 its got even more techno than the 997!

Just think if Porsche didn't change the 911 would a 993 based car compete in today's world? I doubt it.

Sure they are doing what they have to do today, and of course the 997 out performs the 993. BUT, that isn't the question asked in the title of this thread. I could, but wouldn't, and answered why.

I could learn to love one of these...but still would miss elements of my 993, namely smell, sound, simplicity & size. Call them "the four Ss".

There are also a couple other really nice black ones around, low miles etc., but didn't have the sport seats and the CF. This one looks perfect though.

You guys are kidding yourselves thinking that the 993 is a 911. Excuse me! While it has the great looks so much was done to refine the 993 that the real soul of the 911 was lost. I love the looks of the 993s but in time they will become maintenance nightmares like the older 911s have. Ultimately we all have to 'upgrade' before the car is impossible to keep up,--thinking especially of the electrical system. I bypassed the 964s and the 993s and especially the 996s which were seriously desexed by Porsche for some strange reason (design by committee?).

So what did I do? I ordered a seriously overloaded 997S Cab, but in a 993 color! What a great car!

This thing is nuts! Did you notice the red stitching on the sports seats? It's just the right car in so many ways...the only problem is the price tag...$83k is a number I'd have to think about. I really wanted to be closer to high 60s or low 70s. I'd be willing to pay a premium for this but I just don't know if I can get myself to $80.
