Default Advice on a good PPI place in the Long Beach, CA area?

I know of the McKenna dealership in Norwalk - usually run about $300 for a PPI.

Anyone recommend anywhere else in the area? Or Orange County?

Red Line (previously in Santa Monica) is re-opening in Long Beach any day now.

I don't think there is anyone more **** about these cars besides tony at Callas Rennsport. Of course, that's what you want during a PPI!

Cool Tony Callas...

If there is something amiss, Tony and his crew will find it. Good news for the buyer, sometimes not so good for the seller, especially if the potential buyer is a newby to P-Cars.

I guess I was just curious why someone like McKenna Porsche would charge $290 while Callas would charge $360-$500. That's a big difference.

What would be the difference?

Maybe the old saying....."You get what you pay for".....might apply.

But really, Tony is the owner of his own shop, and HIS reputation is on the line, not a mechanic just working at a dealership. Besides Tony is probably more knowledgable than any two or three wrenches at McKenna! And basically you are paying for that knowledge. He will probably spend twice the time inspecting the car than the dealer will.

That seems like a lot of pepperoni for a PPI, IMHO. I guess you could spend $1k or more on a PPI if you wanted even greater assurance, but at a point the investment begins to outweigh the benefit.

If the quotes include a leakdown and/or compression test then I would say the cost is fair. If they don't, then the cost seems high.

Tony & his crew spends a great deal of time when they do a PPI. They WILL uncover everything. It is worth every penny.

When they are done with the car, the list will be long but what you need to ask is dispite everything that they find is it a "good solid car".

My point is that I would need to be very committed to a particular car to part with $500 for a PPI, and the seller (if he's smart) is going to know that too... that's a large investment, at least it would be for me.

It seems like a couple hours would be more than enough time for most PPIs, unless something suspect comes up that requires a more in depth inspection.

Again, just my $.02

Again, just my $.02.

If you feel that the car is very well maintained and has records and is THE one you want have the PPI done and any findings can be part of your negotiation of price.
