Thanks again. Keep your 0.02 coming! I want to hear your stories
I have a question, are some years better than others? '95 vs '96 vs '97? What should I look out for when checking these cars? Besides the obvious. I'm getting a PPI anyway but something I can check on my own. Any tips? Also, are these cars drivable in daily city/suburban traffic? I'm gonna be using this as a semi-daily driver.

Like the others I was reticent about teh clutch when I was considering buying -- but within a week it was a non issue -- Brakes are the most impressive part of the car ( apart from those rear haunches of course ! )

I use it (almost) daily up and down 401 -- Its a blast !

Just bought my 993 a few weeks ago and it has been a thrill getting used to. I thought about a Boxster too, but I knew as soon as I had a Boxster I would wish I had it's big brother. It certainly is not the same as the other cars I have had, but you quickly come to appreciate the differences.

Good luck with your search - (mine took me over a year, but was worth the wait for the right car).

Thanks
Congrats on your car
Over a year?!?!? Good grief, you guys are patient. I am too but I don't know if I can wait a year. I'm itching to pull the trigger right now on the first one I saw, lol. I guess patience has it's rewards and I'm glad you love it. In the meantime I'll stock up on knowledge by reading up on the car and posting questions.

there are a few 993s for sale on the board at the moment. there is one in nocal for under $25k (seems like a good deal) if i were looking to buy a 993 my preference would be to either buy a local car (that i can easily get my mechanic to check out) or a car from a rennlister.

True. For me, the hunt was a very fun part of becoming an owner. I spent a lot of time figuring out what I wanted and reading information about the cars and buyers guides. I was real picky about condition and colors. Since I live in Southern California I wanted a car from a dry state. I had a 1972 911 T a few years back and although rust proofing and under-coating are more exact sciences these days, I can't say I wasn't a bit traumatized over the thought of rust mitigation.

My friend bought his 993 two years ago (1997) with 17,000 miles on the clock. I told him in passing if he ever decided to sell it that I would want it. Then a year later I started looking seriously on my own. As I was looking, out of the blue, he called and asked me if I was still interested...the rest is history. For me, it was a big benefit to buy from someone who was knowledgeable about the car. He was also meticulous in caring for the car. If you can, get to know the car you are looking at and get it checked out. Getting to know the seller can also help. Best of luck to you in your search!!!

Guys, nobody has commented on the price......$40k for a MY 95 with 50K miles????

Holts have a good rep but several here in the past have commented that they price high......I might have thought more like mid 30's......what do you think????......however maybe we want the prices to rise and if so maybe somebody paying 40 for a 95 with 50 is a good thinjg?????

I'll take a higher miles big butt for 40k The premium folks pay for low miles is overated, but what do I know.

David...this past Sunday your car looked like it had 10k miles on it.

The car's overall condition and regular oil changes etc is the important thing rather than worrying about the mileage imho.
