My search took about four years - if you don't count the general desire for a 911 since I was 7 or 8 years old - but that's only because I couldn't make up my mind what I wanted. First it was "any" 911 I could afford. Then I discovered - and fell in love with - the 356. I even considered a replica speedster, then went back to a real 356 coupe, then I wanted a 3.2 Carrera, then a 993, then back to a 356 coupe, 3.2 again, then... finally... 993. I'm happy.

Getting back to the question possed by Dhicks and red wag: Is 40K too much for this car?

I think it is. I too have been bitten by the 911 bug and have started to look. So I wrote an e-mail to Bruce Anderson of Excellence. According to his latest valuations for an excellent 1995 993, the price should be about $35k.

That being said i recently went to a place here in Houston, Victory Motors. They too were asking about 41k for a nice 993 with about 50kmiles. So that right in line with Holt.

For the people that have bought used from such a shop recently, how much do these shops go down on price for a nice vehicle, not for a dog that's been sitting for a few months?

Also, I see this particular car is an S. How much additional do you think that might be worth?

Right... the car at Holt is NOT an S. Must have been looking at the 18" turbo wheels....nice.

This is the car I looked at at Victory Motorcars

This car is actually a 96, but looks like similar condition to the Holt car.

red_wagen- You will never, and I mean never regret the purchase of a "sound" 993. However, you must definately get the PPI (pre-purchase inspection) My advice is, no matter what car you decide on, always hold a little money back. When I bought my 993 I got the best car I could find for the money I was willing to pay and kept about 5 thousand bucks in my pocket. This I thought I would use for any surprises after the purchase (even though the car was perfect and with only 32K miles on it). And after driving it for about six months with no problems the plus side was I got to use the 5 grand for upgrades!
Good luck and enjoy the thrill of the hunt!

I wouldn't buy the Victory car - The engine has been fitted backwards

or maybe just the photo has been flipped

Thanks everyone
I appreciate your thoughts and insights. I just bailed on the Polar silver carrera. Only because I felt, and most of you as well, that the price was a little on the high side. Also because I think I owe it to myself to check out other cars and not bite at the first 993 I come upon. I would have been really stretching my budget at that point and if something happened, I would be vulnerable. I'll take it easy and bide my time. In the meantime I'll stock up my war chest and save money for the "one". My Carrera is out there...

Bruce Anderson of Excellence is not really aware of the range of prices, just FYI. The range is HUGE, depending on condition, miles, model, etc, etc.

An independent PPI is critical (and sorry if this is repeat - have not read the entire thread).

Then..... have fun!

Some obsessive compulsive took the list that's been posted here, got annoyed at all the dead links, fixed them all and added a bunch more:

On the clutch... I'm surprised noone has written this here yet:

Look at your foot when you're sitting in the car. Is the hinge at the bottom or the top?
Now look at the 911's clutch pedal assembly. Is the hinge at the bottom or the top?

So.... Looks like our pal Dr. Porsche has gotten it right. And everyone else does it wrong.
Funny eh?
