Default Brrrrrr - No Heat???!!!

OK - I *did a search*.... But this issue isn't covered that I can find..??

It's a tad chilly up here... And a few weeks ago, my heat went to "1/2 power" - in other words - only sending heat to the passenger side. While that makes Jen happy (as the passenger) - I'm left a bit frosted by the whole ordeal... I have taken Adrian's book - and tried to trouble shoot it myself - but without luck..? So HELP!

OK - heres what I've checked.....

- Yep, the left side heat exchanger is still in place
- Yep, all the hoses are in place;
- Yep, the engine blower fan blows fine;
- Yep, under the front hood - I checked all 3 servos for movement on top of the "air mixing thingy"- and they all move as the controls are operated;
- Yep, all the clips to the servo arms are clipped tightly;
- Yep, all the vacuum lines to the servos are plugged in;
- Yep, I checked for any blown fuses;

And nope - still no heat to the left side of the cabin (either defrost or floor????)

OK - what am I missing (besides finding what I missed ) ?

Any help, thoughts, tips, condolences gratefully accepted...!!!

John

John, I had the exact same problem about a year ago. Most likely it's the electric motor on the flap valve in the driver's side footwell. Mine had shorted out & was unrepairable.

To confirm, you can switch it with the passenger side, turn the temp control to heat and see if the flap opens. If not, the electric motor is shot. It's called a Vent Control Motor, part number: 993 624 325 00 & about $100.

Nice site, a little challenging to navigate though.

I've seen them in many formats but his "Technical Terms Explained" is funny.

John, I may have an extra if you like, it's a new Porsche part, when I tried to replace mine the first part the dealer sent had a different shape for the part that sticks out and turns the flap. If you get a part # off the bad one, if it's the same as my extra, you're more than welcome to it. Or, if you want to do surgery on it and make a good one for yourself, ditto.

Hi Bob, Bill, Vic - and ERIC!!!...

I HAVE HEAT!!! I HAVE HEAT!!! I have so much heat - I can keep my 993 toasty and warm!! I have so much heat - I could heat my garage! I have so much heat - I could heat my house! I have HEAT!!! Eric was "right on"!! It was a failed motor in the flapper unit in the footwell...

How did I fix it for now? Like any good CW and Rennlister - I taped the gosh danged flapper OPEN.....

Vic - my old part # is 993.624.325.00 - and I'll send you my "core".. Don't worry about the smoke if you try to ra-attach it, it was just me trying to clean up the contacts, which of course - didn't work Seriously - I'll buy your old one from you for what you have into it +plus shipping + packing + handling fee + whatever....

I HAVE HEAT!!!

Thank you!!!

John

Hey John,

Good fix! I've always said that a ball of twine and duct tape will fix almost anything. I decided on an alternate way of getting heat and left Maine for a job in Laredo until June. That should take care of any cold problems. Hi to Jenn and hi Vic! Y'all stay warm now.

Let me check the # when I get home tonight, John ... the dealer I bought the car for sent me the right one and never sent a call tag for the wrong one, so you're welcome to it gratis if it's the right one for you.

You know John, real race cars don't have heat. Kind of goes along with your post long forgotten by most with your "Frozen Rotors"....

LOL!! Well - my rotors were frozen (as you recall ) - BUT - at least the car had HEAT, so I could stay warm while contemplating my frozen rotors

Anyway - I need to head to work in a few minutes - and guess what? I'm actually looking forward to the drive in single digit temps outside!! Unbelievable..!

My thanks again to all - for everything!! And Vic - please do let me know when you have a chance, OK??? As for this:
