Not bad. I've got a good amp, speakers, and 10" sub, so I don't find myself having to push the volume much in general with either the creative or a cd. Then again, I don't want to drown out the RSRs which sound much better than most music.... I can't speak for the Ipod, but I would imagine you'll have a similar experience.

Resistance is futile. Might as well enjoy it.

I have a similar alpine and tend to agree that, IMHO, it is on bling side. I bought it for it's ability to control the i-pod and that it was compatible with either Sirius or XM.

When I actually installed though, I found the I-pod controller very limited (it could only see so many so many songs..599 i think) and no where near as easy to use as the i-pod. So I bought a line-level out connection (by Nyko) for my i-pod and connected to the Aux input on the head unit.

And as for the satellite radio capability, my wife had to rent a car with XM for a month 'cause hers was being straightened out at the body shop, and I really didn't find any one station that played the music I like. LOL, the alpine does sound clean and i love my i-pod.

I looked for becker radios, don't know how their availibility is here in the US but I have never seen them at any Audio place. Here is a website that might give you an idea. I think these look pretty clean though. http://www.caraudiodiscount.com/acatalog/becker_cd.html

As far as speaker, I like MB Quart. Go for the mid-line or better.

In a 993 you already have the best music comming from behind you, though. So don't spend too much money on the secondary sound system. That's my advice.

P.S. I would not buy Calrion. They seem to be more a boutique electronics mfr. When I bought my Alpine, I listened to Calrion and Pioneer as well. The Pioneer and the Alpine were fairly close, but the Clarion was as distant third, and it was the best unit available at this Audio store. Clarion is also the main suplier to Nissan, if that makes any difference.

I don't think you can go wrong with Infinty speakers-Kappa Perfects to be exact. Likewise, Infinity makes a great amp. I think Alpine is overpriced for what it gives back-it used to be one of the top players but so many have come up to their specs for less money.

For example, you cannot beat an Eclipse head unit for features/cost. Do they look "bling"? Who knows.

I have an Eclipse unit, 400w amp, Boston 4" rears and Kappa Perfect 6.5 fronts. I don't think you can do any better for sound quality considering the car is just not that good of an accoustical environment. I get very strong Bass from my system.

thanks for the advise.

Paul, You mentioned 6.5 polykevlar focals. Are these components, and I am assuming they are in the front, correct? What do u have in the back, and are they components too?

I agree the DRZ9255 is simple and nice...but too pricy for me...

For the front, Some guys say 4", others say 4x6...is this the same thing?

Also, should I start by changing the deck 1st, and see if the sound improves, or just go all the way.

thanks,
sam

Change out the deck and the front speakers first. Then add amp followed with subs if you need more. Front components 5.25" fit fine, my rears where 4" round, not the same thing as 4x6. Give Rod Birch a call he can help you map out a plan that works for you and your budget.

The 4" are for cabs. I believe the coupes ran 4x6's.

Sam,

I'm refering to the K2P for the front stage, (2 way components). Its best if you try to keep the tweeter physically as close to the woofer as possible.

I decided to do my stereo upgrade in stages. First I changed the head unit and the Amp together and used the existing nokia speakers for a year. No real bass to speak of, but otherwise the sound is very good. I have mentioned before the the stock crapy nokias sound really good with a new amp and head unit if one does'nt want to spring for the whole upgrade in one shot. Im now working on the lack of bass problem but have not decided what to do - large woofer in the front trunk or small sub in the right footwell??

I was refering to the 4" speakers in the rear side panels found in cabs. You dont have these in the coup. Sorry for the confussion. In any event I would not use any speakers at all in the back other than subs which are non directinal.

Paul

i do not have the preium sound system in my 993. Is it faif to assume that I do not have a amp besides the one built into the heat unit, and what are the specs for his cdr210?

Any advice on head units w/ great radio receivers? I usually prefer radio to CD's but find many new head units don't put much focus on that part of their system. I have no idea if the 911 window antenna would be a limiting factor.

So what do you think about that NAK CD400? I am enamored with the way the 400s and 500s look, but am disappointed with lack of functionality. Who needs all those fancy features anyway.

Anything you don't like about it??
