Default What's your key fob range?

Did a search and learned a lot about the nightmares of the 993 alarm system and key fob, but am still wondering about range.

I bought a 97 993 C2 last Friday and it came with only one remote/fob (a separate one, not built into the key). I have to hold the damn thing right up to the door and often have to press it repeatedly to get it to operate the locks/alarm. I changed out the battery with no improvement.

Are they all this way, or should the thing have more power/range? Would a new fob likely solve the problem?

About 10 feet. Not nearly long enough. Remote is brand new.

At least on my '95, there's a little antenna wire under the passenger seat where the receiver is. Moving that wire into different positions makes a huge difference in range. Might be worth playing around with.

10 feet... a bit further out if I put it up against my chin.

I've not change the battery since I've owned the car... almost 3 years now. Probably a good idea.

Cool Terry.

Either you have an aftermarket remote or you've never dropped your remote.
On a good day when the planets are aligned I can probably get 10ft away.

About 10 feet for both of the 993s I've owned. Nature of the beast, I think.

Press the remote against your skull, and with your other hand, point your finger at your car. This may not increase the range (as purported), but it makes you look really cool.

I am also at the 10 ft mark. Either remote, with or without new batteries. I think I remember someone commenting on the design criteria of minimizing the opportunity for signal theft. Don't know myself. I do know that I can lock and unlock my Tundra from over 500 feet away.
