I think the master cylinder is different, as well as the equalization valve. I have heard people just replace the calipers and that seems to work but ideally it needs the rest. I am not sure if the ABS is different and I don't have access to my parts book at the moment to check..

New brake pads, also new longer bolts for the front caliper.

As well as longer bolts for the rear calipers as the TT rears have a thicker mounting flange.

Are you sure about the rears, Chris ? Gert supplies new front bolts, nothing for the rear ...

cheers, Maurice

see if you can get the RS rear calipers. They have bigger pistons which match better the stock narrow body brake system/brake balance. Brake pads and disks are identical to the TT big reds.

I put Big Reds from a trashed C4S on my C2 and they were a direct bolt-on, no mods needed at all. Three yrs. later still working perfectly.

The C4's & RS do use a bigger 25.4mm m/c that is electro-hydraulicly actuated as opposed to the 23.8mm vacuum actuated n/a 993 version. But it is not necessary to change, the 23.8 is fine. The 25.4 does give a better pedal but is neither cheap nor easy to t/p.

p/v's are all the same 40bar units on all of the 993 variants. The C4's, RS's and C2's w/ ABD have 2 of them vs. the non ABD C2's which only have 1.

The rear bolts are the same for all versions, but are normally changed when a caliper is removed for any reason.

You definitely do want the RS 30/36 rears rather than the tt 28/28 versions

You need new pads, the old fronts could be used in the back, but it's best to start w/ all new components. I would also replace the brakes lines while you are in there.

IIRC, this subject has been brought up before...a couple of times!

What I remember from the previous posts: for a narrow body car there is actually is no street performance benefit achieved by going with the Big Reds. Heavy tracking yes.

If it is the look you are after, perhaps a high quality paint would do the trick for a lot less.

Everyone is entitled to change their car and mod it to suit...and I am not criticizing...just trying to give you an option and maybe save you a bunch of money. I didn't see your goals in your opening post and am not sure what you are after. Perhaps you can enlighten us and the advice/comments/recommendations will be more acurate.

Cheers!

The standard rear caliper mounting bolt is part number:
900.378.054.09 M12x1.5 x35mm

Big Red TT or RS rear caliper uses bolts part number:
900.378.068.09 M12x1.5 x38mm

There is a lower cost route if all you want is stronger , RS equivalent brakes but not too concerned about the Red calipers for show .

The RS has 322mm diameter rotors , the 993 has 308 mm rotors.

Remove the 308 rotors and fit RS 322 s.
Have 7mm spacer blocks made to go between the Calipers and front hubs .
That raises the 993 calipers to the 322 rotor outer radius .
Buy 4 RS caliper bolts.
Bolt the 993 calipers back on .
The end result is front brakes with very, very near the same brake effort available as RS Reds have .
The 993 rears are a very good piston size to match the fronts so leave them alone !

This is a nice low cost brake uprate if RED calipers are not the reason for spending money !!

Maybe standard black 993 calipers all round will become the stealth brake system ???
