My new ride - "The Red Rocket"
At least that's what my kids call it... fastest car I've ever driven or ridden in.
Vital stats are:
- 2001 M5, Imola Red w/ Sport Interior
- 29k miles
- Bone stock w/ all options (front & rear park distance control, Alcantera head liner, DSP sound system, fold-down rear seats, and rear window shades)
- One year left on a zero-deductible Platinum warranty
Oh yeah, and 400 HP.
It's not a 993, in fact hard to compare the two... the Bimmer's a lot more civilized and less "connected" than the Porsche was. Comfort is definitely at a premium though and I'd never sat in a seat that held me just right until now.
Anyway, I feel lucky to have found such a nice example to replace the p-car, and believe I've achieved my goal of finding some balance between my need for speed AND practicality.
Enjoy, and see you all around.

Did you make your way over to http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/index.php yet?
Can't agree on the less connected comment. The e39M5 is a very tossable chassis. Maybe after more seat time your opinion may change. Unless you mean the 993 is more raw.

I had a black 02. Great cars. I like the two-tone interior in yours. If I needed to replace the 993 with a four-door, it'd either be this or an S4 or S6.

I just bought an E39 540i 6 speed as a DD to go along with the 993. It will be interesting to compair the two as after I get some seat time.
Oh, it also is Red! Not an M5 though!
I pick it up in Salt Lake City tommorow and start a 3000 mile road trip.
C ya
