Default Porsche or Porsche?

Ok, off thread but I'm wondering how everyone pronounces Porsche?

The standard American, one syllable "poorsh" or the way that Ferdinand pronounced his last name, with two syllables "porsha"?

My friend, a 997 owner and former 993 owner of many years, uses the former because he knows that is how most non-pcar owners pronounce it and doesn't want to bother with the pretentious debate about the correct pronunciation. I've been using the latter but do find that many people will try to "correct" me and I usually just roll my eyes.

What do you say?

The latter is the correct pronunciation.

I agree. Is that how you always say it? Do you correct people when they refer to your "Poorsh"?

My 6 year old daughter corrects anyone that asks me how I like my "porsch", she says..."It's a Porscha, not a porsch" and rolls her eyes.

Porsche is a family name, not just a brand. Wouldn't you like people to pronounce your name properly?

Well, it is kinda hard to screw up Williams....
I'm not really asking how to pronounce it, I'm wondering what people do about the fact that most folks pronounce it wrong.

My 5 year old also prides himself in correcting ANYONE who says "poorsh"...he will say quite indignantly..."its poorsha".

"Poorsh" or "Poorscha". I got tired of this, so now I just say "nine-eleven". Then non-car people who don't know what means ask me why my car is named after the terrorist attacks. Aaarrgh.

The president of my local PCA chapter pronounces it "Poorsh", and it drives me crazy, but I always let it go. My basic rule of thumb is: Close friends and family, I usually correct, but anything less and I usually don't.

Does it really matter? Who cares, other than the guy who wears his glasses upside-down? David Bowie once told me that he doesn't care if its pronounced "Bough-ee" (as in take a bow), or "Bow-ee" (as in bow and arrows). He knows who they mean and he's just happy they're talking about him at all.

My 2 year old pronounces it correctly! Because that's the only way he's heard it.

I always say it correctly, and I almost never correct others who don't.
