Why can't I top 6K RPM?
Hi all,
It finally dawned on me that my rev limiter is cutting in before it should. I bounce off of it right when I pass 6000 rpm.
I have a 95C2 with what appears to be a stock chip - I'll bring the part number on it with me when I get home tomorrow - but no other engine mods. I did the error code check method when you turn the ignition on and depress the gas pedal, and got the "all clear" (did it last week I think it was a 1 - 5 as the DIY specified).
Any thoughts on why this would be?
thanks in advance for you advice.

Yeah, I have been following the 5400 rpm thread but that sounds different. It's clearly bouncing off of the limiter. And everything else works perfectly. Maybe it's just me and a little parallax error...
I've done some work on her but it's been this way since I got it about 15K miles ago.
Wierd.

Does the rev. limiter kick in at 6k immediately after starting or can you drive a for awhile and then it kicks in at 6k?
I had an issue with a few chip upgrades. Exactly 9 minutes after starting, rev limiter would kick in at 6k. Turn on, turn off and 9 minutes later the same issue.
Diagnostic software detected the issue, which I believe equates to check sum errors. A Rennsport chip fixed the issue.
Im no guru and this is just purely insight to my issue with rev limiter issues about 3 years ago.

No, I dont recall what the codes were.
I upgraded my chip and the 1st causd the check sum errors, the 2nd chip caused the same problems so my shop got a different chip from a different maker and the same problem happend. (I dont recall who they were from) I upgraded to a Rennsport chip and the issue never happened again. I was told I havr a cop car version computer in my car. My shop had an inside track into Porsche and thats what research pointed to.
I had a problem, brought it to a shop, the problem was fixed. Thats generally my rule of thumb for addressing any 993 issues.

Today was the first time I've wound the engine past 6,000 rpm. I've definitely driven the car in a rather vigorous & spirited fashion since purchasing it back in September of '05, but have never felt the need to wind it that high. I guess these recent posts regarding rev limiter cut-off issues spurred me into action. Now I know - mine will easily sweep past 6k.
I removed the Weltmeister chip a few weeks ago and have been driving rather conservatively since.
What a fantastic machine!

I would say redlining the car in 3rd would probably earn a slot in the local hoosegow

I had the same experience with an Andial chip. It would invoke a hard cutoff at 6000 rpm (was as if the throttle was immediately closed). A Rennsport chip and as is well.

Amazing - so I get the car warmed up for a few minutes and in second it sails right past 6K. Then after 5 or so more minutes wham - it cuts off at 6K just like Ken said.
Looks like I may need to replace this chip.
thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it works out.

Its more than likely that you have a regular plain-jane ECU and the people selling and making the aftermarket performance chips didn't have any idea what they were doing.
