Do you document DIY service and maintenence?
Given how valuable complete service records can be, I wonder if any of the folks here who do their own service and repairs bother to document it. If I were in the market for a car and the seller had detailed documentation of this sort I think I would tend to value the car higher than if they just claimed to have done the maintenence.

I do so religiously. My meticulous log book is what helped me get top, top dollar when I sold my SC. I log date and mileage for whatever I do. For the SC I even logged oil temps and track conditions. I keep all receipts and usually have digital photos of me doing the work. But I don't care, since I'll never ever sell my 993. I just do it so I know when it was last done and when it needs doing next.

Excel Spreadsheet on all my cars.
I have complete records on my 79SC back to 1984. The only negative is that I can see just how much money I've spent on repairs, tires, and upgrades over 23 years of ownership. To help me feel better, the repairs are divided into planned and unplanned. I hear people talk about the maintenance and upkeep of Porsches, but I find it amazing how limited the unplanned items actually are on Porsches; at least on the ones I've owned.
I keep the same type records on my 993 and M5, and not a single unplanned repair on the 993 in the last two years.

I guess I'm the odd man out. I do what needs to be done when it needs it, clean it up and go for a drive. Does it really matter at what date and mileage I replaced the alternator?

Regarding my 993, I also keep a little notebook that serves as a "gas log" in the glove box. I record every fill-up (date, place, $/gal, OD reading, # gals, and comments.) Same log contains oil, tire info and comments. Don't know what I am going to do with the gas info, but its something that I started doing about six years ago.
