Default V-1 remote unit with color LEDs installed pictures

I bought this modified V-1 remote unit that came with color LEDs off eBay last week. Now a simple glance down tells me what type of radar they are running.
I installed it on the exterior of the ash tray cover. The display is still quite visible with the cover open.
Here is the link to the eBay auction:

Not sure I follow? The band type displays in different colors with a larger light? I always wondered why for all the money these cost, Valentine didn't make a display showing in big letters what band type you are getting hit with.

I guess Mike Valentine thinks it is more important to display the number of Bogeys and their location instead of the radar frequency. Escort offers this, but their products are so inferior. A lot of flash, but not worth a damn when tourched by a really good radar cop.
I had a great aftermarket accessory called a Steatlh One in my M5 that put the V-1 display on the digital dash. A really great idea, that only catered to M3 &
M5s. Due to low sales he went away..
This seller of this modified remote display, removed all of the red LED's and replaced them with RED (Laser), BLUE(Ka), AMBER (K), GREEN (X).
Signal LEDs from Green to Amber to Red for easier ID of signal ramp up at a glance.
This remote display is much better than what comes out of the Valentine factory.

While an interesting data point, how does knowing the type of radar help avoid a ticket? I am trying to understand what makes this thing worth the $100 investment...

I don't consider spending ANY money on a car an investment. It seemed like a good idea, so I spent the $100. A simple glance down now tells me what is ahead.
There have been many articles written concerning the different tyes of speed radar being used by law enforcement agencies. Moving, stationary and laser being the major types. Those are the types the V-1 detects.

Here is a excellent article for you to read concerning the technology:
