Not sure if everyone clicked through to this more 3/4 shot. It looks like it has 996/Boxster type headlights?
I don't like it.......yet.

I really don't understand the resentment towards Porsche building different kinds of cars. If they redirected key resources from their <911-variant-platform> team to build this and it directly impacted the marquee (such as... no more racing,) then I could see the disappointment.
This from Porsche's web site:
So sell your 20,000 sedans a year and keep Porsche "Porsche". The alternative just may be: Porsche... another brand in the Ford Motor company.
This from Porsche's web site:
The Porsche Principle is also about responsibility. To the customer, and to our own heritage. We never forget our origins. And they are rooted in motorsport, where we have written history on the track. We concentrate on what we do best: building sports cars. And a few other things. As mentioned, we are a small company. The Porsche Principle is also the David Principle. We are not intimidated by the Goliaths in the industry. We are independent. We are the world’s most profitable car maker.

The car isn't terrible IMO but that rear 3/4 view is icky - very heavy looking. I don't see a lot of camouflage there; that's gonna stick in the production car, unfortunately. We can see the real rear 1/4 window now, too, and IMO it's awkward.
Remember that some of the design elements we love in the 993 (front fascia especially) came from the 4-door 989. I'm not opposed to a 4 door Porsche but I wish the Panamera looked as sleek as this (and to heck with the rear seat passenger's heads!):

Guess what the poeple who were supposed to be building & developing their Prototype successor to the 98 GT1 were doing instead?
And what was the reason it took 7-8 years for Porsche to come back to sportcar racing with prototypes (although they're still not in it with full factory effort)?
Cayenne...
And even still today Porsche is not back in sportcar racing as an factory effort the way as they used to be, but no problem, they're building trucks & sedans.
Yeah, building these don't take anything away from the 911, racing etc. not at all...
And that independent BS is really getting old. They were making profit before Cayenne and now with the whole VW deal etc. they could make profit there without building, sedans. Kia competitors, lawn mowers and whatnots...

The uncloaked photo makes it look like a stretch 997 - is that the intent?
The 993 was the last Porsche-looking Porsche in my mind. The 996, 997 etc., may be faster, 'cleaner', easier to maintain, whatever, but they just don't have the heart stopping, drop dead stunning good looks that a 993 has. 928, 911, 944, 914, etc., had a definite 'look'.
To me, Corvette is an example of a car that lost it's styling way back in the late 60's and since 1970 or so, tries to find a new identity each year. Some years are 'really' bad - some years are 'not so' bad.
In my mind the 993 will be the 66' Corvette body Porsche-equivalent in 10 years. People will cream when they see one and when you see and hear a nice one, you will say to your son: "Let me tell you about the chance I had to have one of those way back when..." Just a rambling 2cts worth...

The legend continues to get milked for its brand. What the hell is Porsche doing building an SUV and a sedan? Next thing you know, they'll be building a car to compete with the Prius just because its a growing segment. It's enough to make a Porsche guy turn to Ferrari.
BTW, If I wanted a sports sedan, I'd buy a BMW, Mercedes or Maserati before this ugly POS.

No, the stacked, skinny headlight is, if anything, a CGT note. I'm not sure which 996/Boxster headlights you're looking at...
Not that this looks at all OK, but there that is.

It's hard to draw any conclusions about what this car is going to look like from these mule photos. I'd bet dollars to donuts the front end, especially where the license plate is mounted, will change dreastically. There are obvious stick-ons in the rear to. I'll keep an open mind until I see the real thing.
For everyone that slams the Cayenne, and Porsche's plans to build the Panamera, you should say a little prayer of thanks. Or maybe you'd rather have VW planning to buy Porsche than the other way around?
Pete
