Stealth 993

Ok, last year!
I found a Factory Porsche Traffic Nav for $299!!!

It looks like they have more for $399. The down side is they do not include the GPS antenna, & want $95(!) for it! I can't figure out what connector it uses, does anyone know? Most GPS antenna's are $15-30.

But, even with the antenna purchase this is ONE HELL of a deal for a OEM NEW unit!

The original is bosch and has the bosch logo on it.
Type in the phrase ' becker gps ant* ' and do a worldwide search.
They sell from 15 - $30 with 5meter cable
Choose a seller who ships worldwide, and voila.
If you're stuck, I'll buy and send you one

I rented an Audi TT in Europe last September with a similar system and was pretty impressed. Wonder if there is the CD for the Canadian Data available?

I may be wrong on this, but I thought the later cars had some sort of fiber/digital network that wasn't compatible with our cars. Can anyone confirm that this radio will or won't install in the 993? It's a great deal if it will work.

Oh, don't tell me that! When I ran the Porsche part # it did come up with the 95-98 993's, so I'm hoping it does work!

Oh, I need a WICLIC antenna, that auction ended & he doesn't have any more posted, but I'll keep looking.

A Becker Traffic Pro High Speed (which is what that thing above is, but with a different badge) will work fine in a 993. I know of a bloke in Holland that sels them by the cubic yard, no complaints whatsoever.

Thanks Peter. I think I will pick one up - they have such a nice understated look.

EDIT - did a quick search, and the fiber optic stuff was put into the 2003 and newer cars.

I have one in my car for years now and it is a porsche original mount on the 993.
Problem is the US version that is sold has the radio frequencies in ODD numbers.
So these won't work in europe or elsewhere.
Stealth 993 if you could fire up yours and check the radio frequencies if they scan on PAIR numbers, that would be swell for the other Rlisters, regards

Plastic optical fiber (POF) is used in MY03+ vehicles and is called MOST. Nothing to do with 993's

Really not trying to be a stick in the mud here, cus that deal on that radio seems great. But,, I seem to remember reading somewhere that on the older Porsche GPS stuff, updates to the info for new roads/highways ect was gonna be a problem. Like it wasn't going to be supported ? Please someone, Tell me it isn't so !!

I recently bought what looks like the exact same radio from Becker a few months ago for $499 IIRC. It came with everything including a guarantee but still $299 is a GREAT deal, even without the antenna. The display is no problem and should work in any 993. Be prepared to fuss a bit with the installation as I had to connect a few new wires (speed sensor, illumination and reverse). The proceedure is pretty well covered here in other threads. So far I really like it. Stereo wise it's about comparable to the 220 but way ahead of the 210. The navigation is good but there are times you'll miss having a big screen. Mine came with current navigation CDs but each CD only covers half the US with about a 300 mile overlap in the midwest. Jo-hans, it also covers the southern most part of Canada, pretty much coast to coast, which should include the bulk of the major cities but not the Great White North. The CDs are made by Navtec so maybe they have a version that will cover all of Canada. FYI, if you plan on playing music CDs when you're using the Nav feature you'll probably want to add the remote CD player if you don't have it, otherwise you need to load the Nav CD everytime you change a destination, All in all though it's a great upgrade.
