Electronic Boxes under passengers seat?
Can anyone tell me what the 2 electonic control boxes are that are located underneath the passenger's seat in our cars? Each is mounted to the metal plate that is affixed to the floor.

The big black one is the amplifier for the factory Hi-Fi Sound (option 490). The upper one is the control unit for the alarm system. I'm not sure what the lower one is; I couldn't find a part number on the housing.

I believe(but could easily be wrong) that to remove you need a new harness and DME. I would love to hear differently

"I *think* the lower one is the Cruise control unit."
That's it! The upper ECU with the black & yellow connectors is the alarm unit.
That ECU controls the alarm siren (horn), the interior lights,
and door locks. One of the key inputs is the immobilizer located under
the driver's seat. Both can be removed, e.g. race car. The alarm ECU
removal will prevent the doors from being centrally locked/unlocked.
Obviously, the interior lights won't work too.

Not correct. It's only the immobilizer which communicates with the DME.

well the harness goes from the engine to the immobilizer under the passenger seat, then there is another harness from the immobilizer to the DME under the drivers seat.
Now I only go at as far as looking up the parts #s for the various DME and harness combinations, the parts # for the non immobilizer equipped cars is different. I never got to the point of finding out what the difference is.
Also I do know that relay 61 can be shunted to bypass the immobilizer function
If someone knows better, or how to take those passenger seat electronics out, w/o buying a new harness and DME i'm sure many would love to hear about it.
