Sounds like a decent car for decent money. Hope someone in NJ can have a look-see for JD.

Jason - Go for it. The motor alone is worth half the asking price.

If you are serious and want me to take a look, contact the seller and pm me the details. I plan to attend the tech session at Powertech on Sunday which is very close to Denville.

better give east coast cars a real going over...only a few years on the salt roads causes unseen corrision to suspension hardware/exhaust system/underside paint, etc..

i've been really disappointed with mercedes and porsche cars that have spent winters on the east coast roads.

East Coast is a very large area with varied amounts of snow and salt. I've lived in Rochester, NY for 12 winters... talking about rust. Boston is not nearly as bad, places like MD, VA, Carolinas... there's no rust there.

i'm from new york and very familiar with east coast cars...i would never buy one...cars on west coast are like night and day.

the 2 cars discussed above are from NJ and bostom...both cities use salt on roads

northeast and florida have corrision problems...any car by the ocean on the east coast w/o garage gets hit hard by salt air corrosion

the high humidity on the east coast beach cities corodes the hell out of cars if they are not kept in the garage.

My car is from Boston. It spent its first 10 years in California. I wonder how many California cars spent their lives on East Coast.

P993 do not really corrode, what's with two-sided galvanized sheet metal and floors and cosmoline on most major parts. I hope you realize that slamming about half the 993 population is a little odd. I'll have to tell Andreas first thing tomorrow morning the terrible secret - he's driving a rust bucket.

But, hey, any rationalization of current pricing is welcome Last time, if I remember correctly, it was the idea that only the horrible cars from horrible sellers are on the market now at current market prices. Makes me smile. Especially knowing that I can part my car out and get about the same or more money than selling it as a whole.

mike...my fault for being too general

there are 2 cars that were posted...1 in nj and 1 in boston...

i'm not slamming 1/2 the cars on this board...some coast cars are well taken care of by caring owners.
i am warnimg potential buyers about oxidation issues related to cars that have spent time in certain areas of the east coast...

shouldn't be too hard to understand...any enthusiast such as andreas i am sure understands this...i'm sure he did his due diligence and thoroughly checked out his rust bucket before purchase ;-)

these 2 cars may be jewels...won't know till they are checked out..there have been alot of scam sellers comming to light and craigslist seems to be a breeding ground.

personally i wouldn't purchase an east coast car because they tend to be less desireable when selling and not as well taken care of...not all mike but many...just can't help it with the east coast elements..

...wonder why most people get excited when they hear it is a california car?...i'll answer it for you mike...because of the climate

William, I do not disagree with you that California cars have certain cachet. I would not say, however, that they would cost more than East Coast cars.

I've mentioned my 12 winters in Upstate NYC on the shores of lovely lake Ontario. Those who know "lake effect snow" might know that Rochester is actually officially the snowiest city in US. I've had front fender on my Toyota MR2, for example, rust into oblivion and flap like helicopter wings until I took them off and drove on the street fenderless for a while. Not too bad, actually, other than going trough puddle.

But I digress. What I'm trying to say that, unfortunately, I know rust. Being in Boston and owning a 993 specifically, I can honestly say that rust has been the very least of my concerns, to tell the honest truth. And that is on 15-year old car with 140K miles that actually spent the last 5 years parked on the street. No rust problems. None.

Well, actually I'm lying. When I first brought the car home from Cali I had a small rust spot repaired around the windshield (very common). So, it's probably just me, but the rust issue doesn't sway me at all.

William, I did not really mean to say that you are slamming all East Coast car. This was (an unfair) poetic generalization on my part, sorry. I just mean that to me and, I hope, most other buyers this would not really be a cause for serious consideration or price adjustment.
