Default 997 vs 993

Hello all.
I am considering a 993 c2 or 4s versus an early 997 s.
These prices are closer than one might imagine.
Is the 993 experience that much more involved that it can overcome
a 10 year difference in reliability and performance.
anyones thoughts greatly appreciated.

You're posting on a 993 board, so I imagine you're gonna get some 993 bias.

That said, there's been several 997 vs. 993 posts lately. Use your search and you'll see.

Suffice to say, if you want a nice, disposable car with navigation and a plush coddled interior, the 997 might be your ride. If you want an old-school sports car experience and a much more raw, back to basics car, the 993 is the call.

There used to be a saying, "buy the newest 911 you can afford." I think it should be changed to "buy the newest 911 you like driving." The 997 has its merits, as does the 993, the 996 and all other variants. Drive them and get the one you like.

I own both (993 cab for +/- 9 months, 997.2 coupe for 8 days). We bought the 997 coupe because my wife and I were both having so much fun with the 993 that we ended up "negotaiting" with who got the car for the day (and I almost always lost that one)

Both are great cars. The 997 is my wife's daily driver now (though she did take the 993 today). The 997 is smooth, refined, very comfortable and very fast. The 993 is a little more "raw" and a little more fun to drive--feels alot more "tossable" in corners. Still plenty fast and handles like a dream. I am more comfortable driving the 993 in a spirited fashion--it just feels smaller and lighter (which, of course, it is).

For a daily driver, I'd choose the 997--but the 993 is more fun to drive. A more visceral, seat of the pants driving experience (partially a result of the cab vs. coupe in my situation). I really like both cars, you can't go wrong with either one.

You should drive both and pick whichever one you like more.

I think 993 is more interesting as a third car/hobby car.

I'd take a 997 if I were going to drive it everyday.

Talking 993 would be a fun woman to have on the side, but you don't want to marry her and hav

A 993 is like that "chic on the side" she's pretty but just isn't good all the way around like the main squeeze.

To the OP: these three comments pretty much boils it all down. I was in the same position a while back. I chose a 993 since I wanted an old school "project" type car. I would get a 997 if it were my only car. Not to say one can't use a 993 as a DD, but I'm too weak and fragile and spoiled and useless and old and lazy to want to drive one day in and day out.

And of course, Trinitony said it best.
(Hey, how are you liking your Ah-eM-Ghay?.... as they say in Italian )

Such decisions are about personal preferences but the 993 is far superior in terms of reliability/durability than the 997,....no comparison at all.

Wow. Steve, do you attribute this to the IMS issues the first generation 997s now seem to be suffering?

Hehe, you gotta keep that beast near the door. They're not quite house trained.

You got a rare cruise machine on your hands.

I like this! Perfect way to put it.
