I could see how this could happen easily. When I installed mine, I checked that clip more than once to make sure it was in the groove.

Duckman, It should be an easy fix. GL!

Very fortunate to have this happen in your garage.
I had a similar problem where I could move the shift lever in a complete square of it's outermost reach. I could however get full forward into 3rd and full back into 4th. Turns out my cup/bushing guess was wrong and I really didn't need the SSK & Golden Rod (but I'm glad I got them anyway) what happened with my 993 is that the trans shaft set bolt had fallen out and was sitting in the rubber boot. I was able to shift 3rd/4th because the boot was pulling and pushing the shaft in/out on the trans. I could have just re-installed the shaft set bolt. But I didn't. I put the SSK & Golden Rod in anyway.

Glad I did.

Problem solved. Rather than it being the clip, it was the bolt. It came loose and I found it on the floor of the garage under my 993.

My mechanic, who is normally really good about most things, fixed it without charge, as he should have. This time he drilled and wired the bolt so the nut cannot come loose.

I'm still amazed at my luck for the problem to occur in my garage, rather than on the road. It would have been bad enough to get stuck somewhere out in the boonies but it could have been even worse. Imagine dropping the throttle at the apex and drifting toward the exit edge at 90 mph or so when your tranny pops out of gear. It could ruin your whole day.

I just finished installing my SSK and Golden Rod tonight. It took me about 1.5 hours but I do have a lift in the garage which reduces time. This is a very easy upgrade. While is was there I replaced the rear seal on the transmission tale which was leaking. It was an $8 part from Pelican. Big difference between the old set up and the new one! Thanks FD Motorsports. You guys as usual have been great to deal with!

Michael nailed it... the most cost effective route are the Porsche RS parts and modifying the lever.

Thanks for the nice comments Bob, Jason and Michael. We are doing our best and having a pretty good time doing this stuff!
Mark,

Can you clarify? I'm not quite sure if you're indicating the AWD is a bit more involved installation. Would love to consider on my TT. I'm not a mechanic but great at puzzles so unless modifications or special tools are required, I'm usually pretty capable of moderate difficulty tasks. And like a few others here, would love to know of the cost. Feel free to PM me.

Steve,

We are in the midst of developing a SSK for the AWD cars but still have some testing to do.

We could set you up with a kit now but this requires modifying the tunnel cover for clearance. The AWD cars use the torque tube as the shift box and the front drive shaft runs down the middle of the tibe the shifter slides on so it cannot be moved upward as you do with the 2WD cars.

What we are working on is eliminating the need to either pound out or cut/weld the tunnel cover so that the RS lever will fit. It is going to be very close!
Worst case, this kit will still require a modification to the tunnel cover panel but it will be much less.
We also want to eliminate at least one of the ball/socket joints since this can be a weak point.

If you want more info feel free to shoot us an email fdmotorsports@comcast.net
Or I'd be happy to talk and explain what, how, why, etc.
