I also had the oil thermostat failure (back at about 80k miles or so). Symptoms mirrored yours almost exactly.

Thanks again to all you guys for the brilliant series of responses. The dealer is replacing the following today :-

1. Oil cooling Fan Relay.
2. Oil temperature sensor.
3. Oil Thermostat.

I'll give her a good run over the weekend and update you on how things go. And I'm feeeeling fine :-)
