Default My Protomotive Stage 1 twin turbo kit is for sale.

[EDIT 12/11/09: As I posted below, in response to questions about the turbo's condition, I'll just send the turbos out for teardown, inspection, and cleanup. That way you can be assured they're in excellent condition.]

Finally got it listed. Ad is here.

EDIT: sorry, I forgot non-members can't see that link, so here's the ad:

My Protomotive Stage 1 twin turbo kit for 993 is for sale. I purchased the kit new in 2008 and it only has around 1,800 miles on it. Currently sitting on a shelf. New price is $14,500 ($14k kit plus $500 injectors), so I'd like to get $8,800 for it. Kit has been installed and is FULLY sorted, which is a huge advantage over starting from scratch (trust me!).

I got +135 hp (flywheel) using pump gas. Only adds 47 lbs over stock. This is a true bolt-on kit (no need to drop the engine) and includes:
- Garrett T3 Super60 turbos
- Intercooler
- BOVs
- Modified headers (heat exchangers)
- Tial wastegates
- Alum valve covers
- Larger fuel injectors
- Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
- etc. All you'll need is a chip (but I'll include my 91 and 93 chips). Protomotive will custom write a chip for $110 for this kit. Just tell them what you want/need.

The kit is a cat-free setup with a muffler. 1995 cars won't get a CEL, but 96+ cars may want a work-around (like an O2 sensor spacer, or remove the O2 sensor and put it in a box... same as the guys who use cat bypasses) else you'll likely get a CEL. A pic:

I spent a lot to upgrade to a ss muffler, and added tips:

P'motive sells a slightly cheaper kit that retains stock cat and has no muffler, however that's far from ideal as you really want the turbos at the headers and no muffler would be too loud, hence this configuration. This kit is easily good for 500 hp if you install different pistons to lower the compression ratio.

The sale includes a complete set of DIY instructions written by me:

964 Owners:
Protomotive tells me this should fit a 964 except that there probably wouldn't be enough room under the rear bumper covers. So either some modding would be needed, or it would probably fit a turbo body.

I'm glad to answer any questions about it. Here is a good thread describing the choice between supercharging and turbocharging.

I'll take it! Oh wait. I sold my 993.

This is a great deal! Good luck with the sale. For that price it is worth getting into the motor and lowering compression to up it to stage 2.
What a deal.

Eric, who in the Chicago area could do the install? About what should take cost in addition to your kit? Thanks.

My guy in Franklin Park would surely do it (Andy at Eurocar). Not sure what he'd charge, probably between 20 and 30 hours at $85 (?) per hour, so probably $2k give or take. He's already very familiar with the kit since he does all my work. If you ship your car to Protomotive, they charge $2,500 for install. Using my instructions, anybody could do it, no special tools needed and no electrical rigging.

Weep. Sad indeed.

I read that thread but did not make the mental connection. Thanks for the refresher course.

Eric,

Best of luck with the sale and the rebuild.

Eric -
I am really tempted by your kit. Do I need a new engine lid or does it all fit in giving a stealth look? Thanks. Gil

Eric's kit needs a turbo tail of some sort (GT2, turbo S, turbo) to accommodate the intercooler. I'm constantly tempted by this deal, Eric went through all the trouble to sort it out http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...stall-diy.html

The stock lid doesn't fit over the monster intercooler, so you need a turbo wing, GT2 wing, or Turbo S wing. RS lid wouldn't do it, since you need a larger opening. I would consider selling my Turbo S wing (I bought it new from MA Shaw/ Geddy), but I haven't really thought that idea through.

Edit: Dan beat me by a minute.

p.s. have I mentioned +135 fwhp lately?

I do think that whoever buys this kit will feel like they got away with murder.

Eric -
I can only imagine the additional power. How was it to drive? Acceleration in 3rd and 4th gears?
Thanks

Driving it, you don't get turbo lag since it's still high compression, so that's really nice. When the turbos start boosting (3k to 3.5k), the thrust isn't jerky and fiendish, but rather smooth. So that makes it very drivable... it's like the stock car but a LOT faster. And the torque never peters out (see the dyno plot I posted). Many turbo cars (like our Audi) have pretty narrow torque bands, and it peters out higher in the rev range (5000 rpm in the Audi). But these turbos just keep pulling. They're sized for 500 hp if you install lower compression pistons at some point down the road.

Acceleration in 2nd gear is easily my favorite, but passing on the highway in 3rd or 4th gear is quite the pleasure.

I would SO take this if I would be able to walk/drive/breathe (or just plain be alive) after my wife found out I bought it...
