my 95's horn has started honking when I hit a bump or turn hard at speed. Any thoughts?

Common problems, it is the little o-ring bushings that's worn out inside the horn. Both 993 and 996 owners have had the same issue. Do a search you should find many discussion on this and solution for it. I got lazy and just stuck a folded paper between the horn and the steering wheel. Solved the horn problem and the horn still works if I press it.

I have the same issue going on in the Turbo right now. The guys at Ruf tell me the grommets are worn down and it's about a 10 minute fix. Trick is you have to have the right tool to remove the airbag.

Soooooooo common. Like Robin said take the airbag off the steering wheel (disconnect battery 1st) and you will see the retaining ring for the airbag. The 4 (I think) black rubber gaskets are worn down. Someone here replaced the gasket with pieces of a rubber hose. The stealer will try to sell you a ton of stuff at $$$$$$$ but this is a simple DIY

Thanks guys- first time to use rennlist but so happy with the response and glad to have the support.
I'll get the wheel apart this evening and see if I can fix it. Not real good for my ego to be honking every 50 feet.

tranq993:

I have an extra steering wheel here if you need me to take pics of the grommets.

If you can't fix it in a hurry and want to drive your 993, you can also just pull fuse #3 out and it will disable your horn.

I had the same problem when I hit my brakes hard ... it was sort of funny until the people at the light in front of you think you are beeping to move them along ... not so funny. I'm way too chicken to mess around with the airbag, so told my mechanic the Rennlist quick fix of cutting some tubing and he had it fixed in a snap.

Airbag = no problem. Just disconnect battery first and do not re-connect battery until the airbag is hooked back up and put back together.

This really is an easy fix with a tube of aquarium sealant (silicone sealant) It was harder to find the correct T25 torx driver for the job than the rest of the job (a short bit will not work) has to be a few inches long.

This not only is great, but also a very timely thread for me ...just started happening to me. Thanks, Mike, for all those links ...very cool! But I am trying first Robin's method ...non-intrusive is nice (aw heck, who am I kidding, it's the easiest fix so I'm a goin with that one ).

Gott a fix this too. I pulled the fuse six months ago. I was so stupid. I thought someone kept honking at me. Even ask my wife if it was my horn, she thought it was Murphysflaw honking at me on one of our fun runs.
