I would keep them stock. Buy a set of 996 turbo wheels and go with the BMW M5 two-stage wheel paint.

On my last Arena Red car I painted the wheels a gunmetal grey metalic from house of color. It looked specatacular and got lots of compliments.

Stock alloys BUT paint to match the car as Porsche offered when new. They would leave the actual "rim" of the wheel the standard silver color with the rest painted body color. In '96 there was a guy here in St.Louis that ordered his Arena Red Turbo with this option and had the Big Reds factory painted silver instead so as to not clash. Upon delivery he polished the remaining silver rim for a brighter finish (not chrome, just polished) on the alloys and I think that was one of the classiest and most unique examples I have ever seen. Its something very different and totally period correct that you never see. The only other color I can remember seeing the Alloys painted from the factory (on a 993) was on a black car with black wheels and red TURBO script which was unique at the time, but everyone does black wheels now. Just a thought. If anyone has pics of factory painted hollow spokes please post.

Hmm. Some more interesting input.

Price wise a "painted" and repaired wheel will cost me about $125 each (that includes mounting and balancing). A powder coated wheel (which is i believe the process for the BMW color) is $210 a wheel. Don't know if they can do that BMW look with regular paint...maybe close. Plus, I don't know how to deal with the center hub with a custom color. I forgot to ask if they paint that too or what they do?

Seems like stock or gun metal.

Thanks again for the input will let you know what I decide if anyone cares.

I don't know how blue would look with my Arena Red? ;-)

I think that is the look mlk118s suggested. Might look good and we are sure it was an original option from the factory?

Gun Metal is catching up fast.

At murfysflaw...I had an Anthracite BMW and that was a nice color too.

Thanks for the additional input...I hope I don't have too many choices that I can't decide.

I was trying to think of a way to mimic the look on Photoshop...like those nice new car sites have. However, you wouldn't get the exact look, especially on that BMW Gun Metal since it isn't a solid color.

Yes these are exactly what I am talking about, but have the outer lips polished, and of course go paint the crestcap hubcap. Will be stunning.

Not sure if I mentioned before but the actual car I saw with these also had the big polished exhaust tips too. The polished lips along with the polished tips made for a visually unique (at least to me) take on a 993. It really set the car off without the "bling" look that I don't usually like about chrome. Very classy.

Stock or the darker grays that have been mentioned.

OR you could wait to change your wheel color when you upgrade your wheels... Slippery slope, you know......
