JP: Thanks for the pics. Pure Porsche indeed!

Matt: That's why my Boxster S lasted only six months. This is in another league.

Tony: Apples to oranges. I personally don't like forced induction and this is a new car with warranty. See below for performance numbers.

Mark: I bet this thing is going to keep you busy with lighter, louder exhaust mods. If I bought this thing I'd be looking to shave an extra 100lbs.

Jager & Chuck: Glad you guys are reading the specs! This thing is awesome.

The numbers...lbs/HP*:

993 C2: 10.9
997 C2 MK1: 9.5
993 RS: 9.3
997 C2 MK2: 8.9
997 C2S MK1: 8.8
Boxster Spyder: 8.5
997 C2S MK2: 8.1
996 GT3: 8
997 GT3 MK1: 7.4
Modded Boxster Spyder: 7.4 (2,600lbs & 350HP)
997 GT3 MK2: 6.8

Theoretically speaking, a stock Boxster Spyder should outrun and out-handle an MK1 997 C2S and a Boxster Spyder with PCCB, a ~100lb diet (easy with battery, exhaust, spare tire, wheels etc) and chip + exhaust should keep up with a stock MK1 997 GT3 and out brake and out-handle it due to mid engine, lower CG and less weight...all for just over $60k. This is why I'm so giddy on this thing.

*Calculated using published curb weight and HP numbers.

Great car! I have told PCNA reps my opinion on what Porsche should be every time I have gotten the chance. Maybe they listened. Let Audi or somebody make the panamera and give us more of this! Nobody has commented on the 911R stripes?

wow, took Porsche 12 years to get it right. I'd like one, but can't afford it. I have a paid off Cooper and less than a year to go and the 993 is mine, but yeah, Porsche did something right for a change with this one.

This helps ease the shame of the Panamera and coming mini SUV roxster that VW mandates must share the Q5 platform.

That car is crazy cool!! No one mentioned the back look a lot like a CGT!! If I had $60k to spend, I'd be all over it.

With a couple of careful mods, this car would be insane! Speaking from experience, a stock boxter is hard to beat! We have to drive our cars @ 10/10's while they beat us @ 7/10's. In 2 years of Auto-X I have only beat the top boxters in my class 2X.

Apart from the new GT3RS, this is probably the best porsche money can buy, and for less than half the price of the RS. I have a 993 that I love, but i bought a 2000 Boxster for my DD a couple of months ago, and I'm impressed about that car. The new Boxster Spyder is a step in the right direction, getting rid of those unnecessary pounds. Weight is any sortscar worst enemy, and it looks like many manufacturers have forgotten that. I have driven almost every type of 911, from early short wheel based to 997's, GT3's and Turbo's, but the way the Boxster (and Cayman) drives and handles, the 987 series is probably the best Porsche ever. The downside about the Boxster is that it's considered a "Ladies Porsche", and hasn't got the image of the 911 series. Undeserved in my opinion, because the 987 is a better car.

I think the best way to buy this car is two years from now, when they're $40K for a low-mile garage queen.

I guess Im the only one not diggin' the lines, maybe if they lose the stripe on the bottom. From the side the low top and the stripe makes me think of an MR2. Nice to see Porsche think this way though

Interesting to read the response to this car in the backdrop of the reaction to the Pana...

Exactly. I haven't driven the 987 but I briefly owned a Boxster S which I sold in part due to the stigma. This car is something else though. Quoting Alois Ruf: "There is nothing better than saving weight in an automobile". More on this about 6mins into the video below:

That is one cool car. Porsche did well here. I don't think very well suited for our wetcoast climate though.

I like this a lot.

Maximum kudos to Porsche for building a real sports car again!

I love it. I would buy one in a second to add to my stable of cars.

But I can't afford a stable of cars. So, since this would need to be my daily driver, I have a few nits to pick. In Southern California, living without A/C would be rough. Also, methinks that tarp roof would be a pain the neck to put on/take off.

If they made a Cayman version with a fixed roof, that'd be my choice. I'd only add A/C, and it'd still come in at around 2850 pounds and be a great daily driver and also a track killer.

Porsche, are you listening?

YOu guys mentioning waiting a couple years for a $40k one better get your orders in. If they make this thing in limited numbers, that ain't gonna happen.
