Default C4 shopping saga continues

My C4 shopping saga continues, hopefully more happily. Here's what I've got a deposit down on and a PPI scheduled for:

http://www.landmarkmotors.com/invent...rent=1&size=20

Not a lot of factory options but I like that FabSpeed exhaust. Price is right. And it's got a great service history. How scary is the branded title for the odometer fix; seems like not a big deal because fully documented, yes?

Cheers,
Liz

consider a Rennfax before investing in a PPI if you haven't driven the car yourself. any nearby volunteers?

Even if you're comfortable with the documentation provided on the speedo change, it may be difficult for you to resell. (if you ever do) I'll let someone in the car biz speak to how much the title impacts the value.

At 62k miles (or is that 68k?) there should have been a recent 60k service done if it truly was well maintained.

FYI on the 18" wheels... have them check to see if the proper steering rack brace was added. http://www.pcarworkshop.com/images/5...996_640496.pdf

That's a good looking 993! Yes, it's a better price. That place always has good cars, but I don't have any experience with them. Not to long ago they had another silver C4 that a Rennlister was looking at.

If you are serious I know a couple of good local shops for a PPI, & I might be able to go & check it out for you.

I asked, that car has not had the 60K service.

Hey, I'd be quite glad for an in-person look-see, Stealth993.

I tried to get it in for a PPI with Johnny Walker (per a recommendation elsewhere on Rennlist) but he was booked thru next week. So I went with his top recommendation of Redmond European, where I talked at length with owner Monty about the 993 and the whole SAI thing. (Opinions seriously abound on this issue but it was nice to hear him validate Tony Callas & an SAI test....)

The speedo shows ~55k so it's really got ~62k. Is a Porsche-documented speedometer fix really questionable? I'm not going into this expecting to resell it, but of course it's a possibility.

Thanks for all your careful eyes!

Cheers,
Liz

Looks nice Liz. I think it's just the photo's but check the rear tires and wheel sizes, something seems strange. That doesn’t appear to be a factory arm rest, that looks like a Bird one to me, which I do like. http://www.birdautomotive.com/993.htm Check out the parking brake handle, it seems like two different colors. Aftermarket CD changer? Does it have a jack, tool kit and spare tire compressor? The climate control unit appears to be sticking out a little, no biggie. Usually the 993’s will need a clutch around 60-70k miles so have that checked closely. Use my 993 check list and drive them nuts with good questions…hello to Monty for me.

The only odd thing I see on your list is that I have personally never seen a faulty or even weak 993 Ignition coil. There are two ignition coils (as one unit) on the 993. Tony Callas

If I get time next week, I'll go & check it out. Anything you want pics of?

You can't go wrong with Monty!! He is the one who found me my C4. He worked on it for the last 10 years. He also owned like 10 911, all aircooled, but no 993's.

I don't see why the speedo is a issue if you have the documentation on it. They break, & get replaced all the time.

Gaaaah! Sale canceled; husband decided he couldn't live with the odometer replacement. Back to the drawing board. And wouldn't you know, Titleist decided to store his C4 and won't be selling it until spring which is too late for me as I'd like to be able to compete the full SCCA autox season.

OK, 3's the charm, right? Where's my C4...?

Cheers,
Liz

How extensive are the records? An odometer replacement would give me great pause, but if you have a separate service invoice during the time prior to the swap showing <6K miles, and the swap was done at the dealership and documented well (as the ad states,) then I wouldn't worry about it.

Liz:

I am pretty sure I called about that car back in the spring. Did they tell you the owner has several Pcars and is looking to get a GT2/GT3? I went elsewhere due tp the odometer discrepancies- that and the price was too high.

Cheers,

Paul.

At least I probably wont ever have to worry about it again.
