Default Exhaust paste?

A few weeks ago I changed three of the valve cover gaskets, which was a great success to get rid of a visible oil leak and its smell. But it sounds like there might be an exhaust leak now. I've tried routing around with a stethoscope but can't really identify the source of the noise.

So, do you guys use an exhaust paste (like Wurth Exhaust Assembly Paste) at the pipe flanges to get an air-tight seal? If so, is it difficult to get the joints apart later?

Check the donuts that are at some of the joints (like the muffler connection). Its easy to get them slightly off and then they would leak.

I do not use anything on the flanges, but do use antiseize on the nuts/bolts.

Cheers,

Mike

I've used Wurth exhaust paste for leak leaks. It never hardens.

Thanks. I'm going to try to align them again, without the paste, although I tried that earlier.

If that doesn't work I'll try the paste- at least it will tell me if this junction is the source of the noise.

So I take it the paste enables the joints to slip together thereby forming a better seal while tightening the clamps?

Problem solved. I reseated the driver side muffler joint (without paste) and she now sounds normal. I think it was just misaligned.

if the joint has been R&R several times, the joint will deform. The paste will fill in the slight surface variations.
